Makes me wonder if Officer Marcus was ever employed by Elk Grove PD, seems to have the same mindset as the officers around here...

I have the utmost respect for the law.. But I re-read all of this thread. And frankly it is disgusting to see.. and even more so to see a bunch of folks kiss his ass when he apears

Pat, I agree with you. I don't ever recall driving thru Elk grove and getting a ticket for no license plate on the front of the truck.

I am going to continue along my initial line of thinking. He cannot possibly patrol 7 days a week and 24 hours a day, and he cannot be in more than one place at any given time, and he can only process one vehicle at a time, at best two, and at most three.

Option A : learn the schedule of said officer and do not drive icehouse during that time

Option B: play a friendly poker game to decide who is the sacrificial decoy (sacrificial anode?) with no license plate in the front and no mud flaps and the rest of the rigs boogie to the trail as fast as possible

Option C: split hairs with him online, offline, sideline and he will still have it his way every way and you only guarantee yourself more frustration.

I say approach it with an open mind and creativity. He is only "one" guy. Work around him - don't work with him, or against him. He is going to do what he is going to do whether you write him or his boss a legal essay or not. He will use that vehicle code against you every way he wants, and lot of it is at the discretion and interpretation of the issuing officer, and the judge and not the person receiving the citation.

Dane

makes me really wonder what made him so very detail oriented right there ??? -

I drive a truggy in living daylight from the heart of the SF Bay Area, up 680, to 80 and then to 50 to Icehouse and he is the only one in a uniform who cares on that entire route about those paragraphs of the vehicle code. (the last 20 miles of a 200 mile epic journey on 39's humming and wobbling along at 53.5 mph downhill and 34.6 mph uphill)

Dilligence beyond efficiency and certainly bordering insanity but it holds entertainment value!

law

IMHO,he likely dosen't give a hoot about vehicle code violations, he is using them as a vehicle to find much more serious violations like DUI, suspended license, warrants, etc. He is itching to take someone to jail, don't let it be you. I too have a respect for LEO's but thier law enforcement technics are sometimes questionable at best. And i'll bet he dosen't work nights.....hard to see VC violations in the dark.

You wont ever catch me kissing anyones ass and damn sure not some over zelous cop!!! I did not want to come off as ass kissing, but if I did it stops here.

The Elk Grove reference was for the fact that they pay our wonderful police dept (protect and serve has become harass and annoy) to drive around and ticket parked cars with no front license plates. I take the ticket, smile, have another (less anal) officer sign the fixit ticket and pay my $10.

Sorry about the minor blowup, but I dislike(hate) cops more than anyone I know so the ass-kissing comment got under my skin!!

I will pass on the information. I agree and encourage the deputies to stop and talk. I think we can all agree that there are a lot of eyes looking at the Rubicon and what happens over the next couple of months will have a impact for years to come. It's only with everyones cooperation will we be able to keep the trail open, the deputies are there to help, and to deal with those that have personal agenda's for the trail. Hope to see you all out there.

Not big on diplomacy, ok. I can respect that, too.

Personally, I think we have a better future when we can keep an open table with this current lawman and former Marine. Nobody needs to bake him a cake, but there's a phrase about bees and honey...

Working lights...check, front plate...check, mud flaps...check. Per a CHP motorcycle officer that I had look at my rig I'm good to go. He even wants to be a passenger in my rig when I get pulled over by officer Marcus "for the entertainment value".

With that aside, I've been trying to figure out why officer Marcus would venture back to Pirate, sign up and make a post. We all know that prior to his latest post he has been reading the board. To sign up and post just means there is now a new agenda.

I ask you to write to me via a private message with an email address, or your phone number and I will call you. If you prefer I will write you back via my work email.

Damage control? Is it possible that a judge that is dismissing his cases as frivolous is also reading Pirate and shaking his head? Rather than post up on a public forum about a bogus ticket or harassment we should do it via a private message? Bad press/exposure finally starting to warm things up a bit? Bake a cake huh, well turn on the oven.

Any issue regarding your civil rights bieng violated I take seriously, and ask that you do report any violation of your rights. All I ask that you be honest when doing so.

That just screams cya, lawyers and $

If officer Markus really wanted to make some changes in public view, if that is his agenda, there are probably better ways to go about it. In the field would be a good place to start. If I'm pulled over by officer Marcus I'll post it up. If I'm cited I'll let others know for what and if it seems justified. If he is civil and acts like one would expect of a P.O and former Marine I'll post that too.

It amazes me that one person's interpretation of the laws can have such an impact on so many people. This is textbook material for those about to begin a career in law enforcement. Granted he is trying to make the world a safer place, but I think there should be baseline tolerance for the hardcore wheelers who contribute their time and money to the resources in his jurisdiction. Yes the law says to have mudflap, but who does it really hurt out there? There are no photo enforced lights on icehouse road which is one of the main uses of a front plate this day and age. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I hope that as the said officer is seasoned throughout his career he will let off on the pressure. I could go around my block today and probably cite a dozen cars for broken glass, lenses, and no front plates, but will that make me effective in making the citizens of my community respect the law? - No. They will hate my guts.

I started this thread to try to set some ground rules between responsible users and LEO's on the Rubicon. I think Ken may have been out of hand then, and he still may be (I don't know), but lately I am seeing a lot of rhetoric in this thread from the users while Ken is reaching out by rejoining the forum and offering to open an email discourse with folks he has contacted in the field.

Not accusing anyone, just self policing.

Here's what I have learned from Officer Marcus: The trail is evolving and my junk's gotta be legal.

Here's what I hope he has learned from us: Just 'cause you're a hammer doesn't mean the rest of the world's a nail...a guy driving an OHV without mudflaps is just that, not a criminal, and shouldn't be treated like one.

Go to the Rubicon, enjoy yourselves, drive a legal vehicle (either green stickered or licensed and legal or both), and let Officer Marcus do his thing. By the end of the summer, we'll see who's learned what. I would like to see both sides given the benefit of the doubt.

diplomacy has its place.. But really, what do you expect to get out of him coming on here.. He will not unwright tickets. He has had alot of time to see most wheelers are not drunk assholes needing to be harrassed.. And yes I would call it harrassment from what I have read here and other threads..

I wish things were indeed differant.. I just don't see where it could go..

On A better note.. Had a blast up there this weekend in the rain.. And the Eldorado deputies where great guys

Sorry Scott I agree with Mickey. This Issue needs to run to completion.
Closing this thread would only bolster Kenny's Ego by making him think he has some sort of control over us. Even on the Web.

Not that I was thinking of closing the thread, it just seems to me that all the options in discussion have been had. Resqme summed it up exactly. For me, I have no more new stuff to input in to the discussion. Therefore it seems redundant to keep on with the discussion.

Personally I am done with it. That is all I was intending. When a thread reaches it's logical conclusion, it usually dies a quiet death as it fades in to the sunset of page two on the forum.

I am in no way suggesting that continued discussion is a bad thing. You guys have an obvious need to go further, I can get behind that.

Ken's decision to come on here, again, from my viewpoint, is a loss of control situation to begin with. He has NO need to engage the public to discuss any action he may have taken in the past.

By doing so he makes it seem, to me, that he needs to defend an action. He should not have to defend any action except in front of the judge or magistrate that will hear the case.

He has lost control by the very act of engaging conversation on his actions. Not the ego boost he would be looking for. In fact, it may be quite the opposite.

Scott
