What to do when a tree falls on your truck in your driveway

Got a call from dad one day in late October... appearantly my truck had a "mishap" with a windy day, and was in the wrong place at the wrong time....

the culprit:

Oops, I say to myself. That's not good at all! So thus it sat (sans tree) for about 2 months with a tarp over it. Well, as is the case with my luck, the tarp leaked. I get to the truck during break and of course there's standing water on the floor and mold all over the seat.

the damage:

It didn't look as bad as I had originally thought, and after a little bit of "boot training" and some mild sheet metal "massaging", it was looking alright again.

the repairs:

Couldn't quite get this dent out though; no biggie!

Took a while to get all the mold and glass pieces out of the interior, not to mention get it all dry, and the seat still reaks like a wet dog, but the truck is back in action again! Now I'm ready to hit the trails again!

here it is lookin as pretty as ever!

Wow-great job on getting it back together. I know I wouldn't have had the smarts to get it back to that form! Did insurance do anything for ya? Did you look into how maybe the homeowners could take care of it? Have no idea how that works.
Overall though for ya to get it to look so good afterwards!

Good job on the re construction.

Looking good.

Just get a new/used fender. Get a spray paint and good to go.

Put a ton a febreeze on the seats. It will be fine.

BTW where did you get that windshield molding?

thanks guys.

well, as usual the insurance company gave me the old stick up the butt.... no big loss, really, the only cost out of pocket was for a new windshield, which my parents graciously agreed to pay (hey, it was their tree that fell on it...)

The fender I will probably leave alone as I have a bad habit of whacking it on stuff as it is...

the windshield molding was actually from the windshield shop . It was only 2 years old as we had it replaced because the original was leaking bad, and they were able to re-use it. The shop said they run about $50.

Gonna go try that febreeze after class!

Glad to hear your back on the road. it should be pretty easy to unbolt that fender and beat it out from the inside. Just if you wanted to know.

great job man looks good.

leave the dents it gives it class and about the seat

you could use some silver water that's what hotels use to spray down moldy areas since the mold can't survive in the spray.

leave the fender on as a conversation peice.

not to mention people on the road are less likely to mess with a truck that is dinged up.
good job

If I didn't live in Oregon, aka rain central, I probably would have. All the NW guys will know what I'm saying . So far I see no leaks, and actually the windshield seam itself came back pretty much to original shape, as far as I could tell. other than the slight wrinkle in the top of the cab and the slight wrinkle in the hood, she looks pretty much the same.

There's nothing wrong with a few dents. That way you won't worry as much about more off road damage! The repair does look good, though.

BTW, my parents live in Mac, I used to go to Dayton HS and I'm in Gresham now. Small world. Take care.

And motar mixers. Went out and spent $1800 on a new mixer for me to do side jobs with. 2 months later a huge storm came through. The hail dented it all to crap and a tree fell on the rear cover. Just about destroyed the engine and it now looks like it's 50 years old.

Looks good, maybe a cage is in order so next time a tree falls on it it won't cave the whole cab in
