the saga continues...
my patience wears thin as I arrived late to work this morning - The first morning I decided to drive my FJ45 to work and it's 28 degrees out side, luck is on my side as she actually fires up in the cold morning air and I realize my booty-fab heater actually works... a little. Running painfull low on fuel I wheel into the Chevron parking lot to get some go juice and a Mt. Dew, I consider leaving her running for the heat but feeling confident I stall the engine and fill her up. Hell hath no fury like El-Diablo on an outing with me behind the wheel, climbing back into the drivers seat I twist the key only to hear that familiar drag-click associated with a dead $100 Optima battery. The Cruiser gods surely must have heard my muttering curse words and idle threats as I raised the hood to check connections and confirm what I already knew... I was stranded. CERTAIN that I would face anger and ridicule if I dared to call the wife and drag her out of the sack at 6:00 a.m. to rescue me I sat in the drivers seat and waited for a unsuspecting soul to help me push start the beast. After only a few minutes I spotted my helper and approached him inside the store, he was happy to help but the rolling start ended with a chirp of the tires and the end of the parking lot. After some discussion he returned from his truck with a used battery and gave it to me! my faith in man restored I wrenched down the battery and fired the engine, I was back on the road. The rest of the 5 mile ride to work was filled with foul language that would make a sailor blush (as if thinking it wasn't enough) and when I rolled into the parking lot at work I was actually only about 10 minutes late but people were waiting for me, several of my co-workers had been harassing me wanting to see the truck and they came out to the parking lot to check it out. Standing in the parking lot like a proud papa the compliments started (I smiled through clenched teeth) they had no idea the pain and suffering this truck has caused on every outing! The compliments continued..."never seen one of those" "you should restore it" and then the closer "do you want to sell it"............................................... .................................................. ........................."No" I replied, "I'll keep her" (even if she is an ungrateful bitch )Jerry Hocutt

Sounds like you could use a beer
![]() Are you keeping a journal of these episodes? After a few years you could probably have a pretty thick book that you could sell to a publisher. You know anything that comes out about cruisers is sure to sell a few hundred copies to us die hard owners. -mike.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() I quickly learned with my cruiser, it didn't matter what battery, what alternator I had with me......Jumper cables were absolutely necessary. Then my dad bought me a jumper box from Costco. Never leave home with out it.

A friend of mine has a very similar problem with his 40... I started poking and prodding... his alternator charge wire was attached by the insulation on the wire... the copper inside was completely broken.
As a trail fix, we stripped the wire back, and wrapped it around the stud of the Alt., and he was good to go. Or is there more to the story I don't know about?

I give and give and all she does is fawk me. After working hard on her for 3 days I whispered sweet nothings and promised future upgrades and improvements to make her happy. I even moved the FJ60 and parked her in the garage... Cleaned the glass and fixed the wipers. She's a merciless old goat but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of her...unless she leaves me stranded ONE MORE F*^%^&g time

Mount a second battery. I did. It doesn't drain like it use to. If I didn't start it every 3 days I would have to charge the battery. Now it is fixed.

For some reason there isn't as much "juice" in the Gel cell batteries in extreme cold (yeah, that's extreme for me). The deep cell optimas will do you better in the cold weather, I would do a blue top before the Yellow for a daily driver though. However, I would keep the red top and buy a blue top and paralell them or buy one of the kits for dual batteries. That way you can switch from one to two, or you can charge one while you operate on the other... .and so on....
That thing is cool..... For a Toyota....

Go get the crank from under the seat of a FJ55....
My Bro used to always crank start his 55 when these kinda things happened....you know that's why there is a hole in the grill and a funny looking nut on the harmonic ..... Besides people tend to stand the hell back from you after you just crank started your truck

I'm going to do my civic duty here. In concern for your blood pressure, and possible health risks associated with said landcruiser I deem it condemned..... When should I haul it off

Hrm... I noticed that my truck won't start after 3 days in the cold... I thought it was a bad Optima (replaced it, under warranty, hehehe). Haven't had the issue since, but then again, I haven' tlet my truck sit for longer than 24 hours in the cold.
