Machine Shop Alexandria VA

Asking on behalf of my brother in law... can anyone recomend a machine shop in northern virginia in or near alexandria, fairfax, capital in general, manasses, dumfries - that you have had expereience with? I can look in a phone book myself, but im hoping there was one that was perhaps a little 4x4 friendly that does good work that anyone here has dealt with.

basically we built him a grill guard/winch mount for his durango on his vacation - slapped a cheapo winch on there and now he wants d-ring and reciever on it but lives in an apartment and doesnt have access to welder or any fab tools to speak of. (will post pics of winch mount when im home from work)

thank you very much.

When I lived there we always used Fairfax Auto Parts. That was a while back so I can't really tell you much about their rep now.

i like the fact that there are 15 locations. must be doing something right. also implies standardized pricing to me. machinst out here in the boonies charges change depending on their mood or if they have gas from lunch or whatever. no competition to speak of so they charge what they want.

are native to va?

It's a little out of the way, but worth every penny, is Ellison's Machine shop in Glen Burnie. He built my motor in my Malibu, and it runs awesome. His name is Kenny.

Lived there most of my life...spent most of it in Falls Church. I used to go to Fairfax Auto Parts so often that they knew me by name! I would run parts for my brother and his friends at their shop ar work, plus they were always having to piece my old CJ7 back together. Hopefully they'll be able to help your brother in law out!

heres a pic of the winch mount. we tested it once but i think the cheapo winch had a bad selnoid. after it pulled him out he was winding up the excess cable and it would stop working. cable out would work but not in. after a 5 minute break it would work but only for about 10 feet. told him it was between him and milemarker warranty dept.
