FS: Subaru Impreza WRX EJ20 2.0L Turbo, no harness or ECU - bent valves

For sale in Apple Valley, CA

Subaru WRX engine with 44,000 miles on it. Complete flange to flange from throttle body to downpipe including turbo. All engine wiring and sensors included, but no ECU or computer harness. Both heads have bent valves due to timing belt breaking in car accident (the radiator hit the timing cover). Everything else good (including A/C compressor ). All accessories are on the engine (PS, alt, A/C). I put a used low mileage engine in the car, hence everything is still on this engine. The timing belt cover (do I even have to say this?) and one of the cam pulleys are missing (they were broken!) The engine was well taken care of, nothing but Mobil 1 every 3,500 miles (I'll show you the records if you want). It felt as strong as the day I got it and didn't use a drop of oil between changes. Almost entirely freeway mileage from commuting.

Rebuild the heads and you have a good engine. Stock rating is 227 hp. A standalone engine management system with high flow exhaust properly tuned can get 300+ ft-lb torque from this lightweight engine. Great project engine for rock buggy or sand car. I have had it in my garage a couple months and have decided I don't have time to build either of those as planned (2 jeeps are enough work!). I'll try to post pics soon.

Price: $600 obo

Local pickup preferred, will deliver within Inland Empire area for another $50.

PM or email for additional info.

I could pallet it for a small fee (only what would reflect my cost to buy whatever it is I can strap it down with, wrapping plastic, etc), but your friend would be responsible for arranging the shipping. I'll work with him (or her) if interested. The only thing I need that I'd consider as a trade is a 240V MIG welder, and it'd have to be a beaut of a used one...

Hey thanks. I haven't had much luck with Suby forums, so I'm trying offroad/sand to see if anyone is a bit more adventurous. It will not be cheap to rebuild the heads due to the 4 cam (dual overhead on each side) design. Of course, it will be cheap relative to going out and buying a complete engine. The low mileage used engine that the shop that did the work on my car paid $3000 for the engine without the ECU/harness. A reman engine was $5200.

What year did it come out of?
Do you happen to know if it will bolt up in place of a 2.2 or a 2.5?

It's from a 2002 WRX, but I'm not sure what year 2.2 or 2.5 it will bolt in place of. I do believe that dropping it into an earlier 2.5 RS is not that big a deal, there was a write up in Sport Compact Car about it around 6 mos ago. I'll look for the article and see if I can figure out what years it will bolt right in to.
