Cheap extended diff breather tech

Thanks to the weekly downpours here in AZ, river crossing has become an art. So has changing milkshaked oil. I've been meaning to install some extended diff breathers for a while, but the AZ sun made me rarely think about it.
All parts are available at any Napa, ACE, Home Depot, etc. etc.. The thread on the stock toyota vents is a 10mm x1.00mm pitch, but an 1/8" standard american pipe thread is so close it may as well be metric. It is 1/8" x 1.00 pitch for all the tech geeks. All you need to do is to source a couple of grease gun hoses, Lubrimatic or any other brand will work, they're all the same for standard grease guns. The Napa part # is 715-1229, they're about $6 for a 18" extension. If you need more than an 18" diff breather lift, pick up 2 1/8" female couplers for each axle and another length of hose. If you are just going up 18" from stock, pick up one 1/8" coupler. Teflon tape the threads of the hoses and then thread one end into your differential's opening after removing the stock breather vent. Once the hose is installed, put a coupler on the other end and screw the stock vent right into it. Tighten and you're done. Route the lines out of the way and secure. Done deal, no more milkshakes.
An 18" extension/coupler should cost you under $10 per axle, 36" extension like mine under $15. Far cheaper than draining and resealing the diff after submersion, ask me how I know.

There you go, some tech. This more than makes up for the flaming I've been doing lately.

The 36" one for my junk. I routed my rear up my limiting strap for the 4 link with a little slack just in case. Secured it to my ammo can full of spares, a full 30" above stock.

Nice. I had a spare hose (heater or fuel or somthin like that) Layin around so I sqeezed it over the stock port and used a hose clamp. It worked well also, But your Idea is definatly nicer.

I've been running 1/8" NPT fittings in my axles since 1997 or so. They fit well, cost very litle and you have a wide choice of sizes, shapes, angles, etc.:

I broke one of those orange 3/8" air lines from home depot. Took the caps off the stock breathers, shoved the 3/8" line over the top, 2 hose clamps, some zip ties and I am done. Since I had alot of line, I ran both into my engine bay.I may tie into my trans and TC breathers later on.

ditto, bout a buck which is much cheaper than $15

I put loops on the end of the breather and the rear one goes to the tool box and the front wound up in the engine compartment. Both have cheap vw filters on the end

even cheaper and a complete bolt-on same 10mm x1.00mm pitch as toy but longer on the side that you put the rubber hose, is the diff breather of a nissan from the 80s and I paid like 2.29$cad each with taxes at the steallership!!!
it extend like 1-1.5" to put the hose on it

I know my name's not Brandon, but the fittings are for vacuum lines on an EFI V6 motor. I don't remember the Toy P/N, but I think I found it on this board or off-road.com

Since this has become a competition of cheapness...Just rip off the cap from the stock breather, find any tubing that fits over it (I used this clear plastic stuff from the hardwear store) and hose clamp it on. On the other side stick a cheap fuel filter in the tube and clamp it on.

Did I miss when this became an expensive mod?

Even with Toyota parts it's like $10.

Rear:

Up behind the gas cap:

Front (IFS ) - snug fit

Up in the engine bay:

All this diff breather artwork aint worth snot if you let the felt wipers on the backside of the knuckles get worn and leaky. You will have nice diff oil and birfs lubed by green baby-shit goo. Like this.....

Yall are just awakening to what us southern boys have been a-larnin' for years.

Another cheap part is the brake booster fitting on the intake and it's the same thread. Just go to the U-Pull-It and snag one.

Toyota part number 90404-51319 is what I used, not cheap though, $6 at the dealer.
