Air Bag / Air Shock Suspension ?

I have noticed that with my Air Shocks ( fox 16 ) that they are really sensitive to load. Meaning that if I take some weight out of the rear the ride height increases. I don't have any trail time dealing with these shocks, but I am anticipating that the ride height will change very easily as loads go up and down ? Again, I havent had them out for a test run yet or even fully loaded. My opinion will probably change once I get some real world testing on them.

Anyway, I was thinking of running an air bag of my CO2 set-up so I could adjust the ride height on the fly from the cab. Any input ?

Here is an older pic sitting at ride height.

one thing i noticed on mine was they became alot more predicatble after they were run. straight out of the box they sat weird.

and if this continues to be a problem, add oil, subtract gas, it might get you closer to what you want, the fox's seem to be a touch low on oil out of the box for some people's taste.

Thats pretty much on the right track.....

There was another thread I was posting on the other day... i forget the name of it... anyways, guys were talking about using air shocks in conjunction with air bags mounted up close to the fulcrum point of the lower link mounts to easily adjust ride height while using the shocks to suppliment the dramatic motion ratio.... To me this seems like a good idea because air shocks are happiest at lower N2 pressures, which should be the case in this situtation.

i've thought a little about this as well. i think it'll work well. you'd need to know what length bag to run depending on your center diff travel. wouldn't be expensive either. a couple bags and solenoids or air toggles, assuming you already have oba.

I agree this is a cheap solution. All I would really need is the bag, some bracketry, some lines, and a toggle valve. Firestone bags are selling on E-bay for 50.00 - 75.00..

Anyone know the travel on these bags ?

I have my rear air shocks set at 50/50 so I would need a bag that could travel 8" under full drop if both rear wheels were off the ground.

www.airridetechnologies.com or firestones site. I'm pretty certain they both have lists of extended and compressed bag lengths. Don't think they state "travel" but same as a shock, just subtract compressed from extended. Airbags will stretch but if you do it DEFINTALLY put a center limiting strap in. It will stretch but I wouldn't want to hang even a hundred pounds of steel off a single airbag.

If you run the airshocks at too low of a pressure you will loose roll stiffness.

someone needs to produce an air shock or coilover type air bag setup. I've seen the setup on a comp rig and never could find who the heck made it. It looked like 3 or 4 bags end to end around the outside of a coilover(replace the coils with airbags). But there was no seam between the convults of the bag.

That is the setup I am talking about. Can't find a better pic with some air in the bags. A few comp ones but nothing with a good shot of the suspension.
