Ron's latest dealer rescue, Code 48 on 94 LWB, cam???

Is it remotely likely that a Code 48 bad idle would be caused by a bad/worn cam?

That is what the tech is thinking. [I disagree]

It has 101k, has had new cap, rotor, plugs, wires--very recently trying to fix the problem, but to my understanding no one changed base idle or cleaned stepper motor. DUH, this is what I think it is. Very small coolent leak on one head gasket [very, very small].

Kinda rough idle. Smells like raw gas in exhaust on start up, but no smoke. Have not driven it, yet.

BTW its black so this will be (as in tomorrow when wifey cuts the check) one black 95 lwb and one black 94 lwb.

Could be just wear in the throttle needing to be compensated for.

In spite of my findings re: camshafts, I doubt this is a cam issue. Anybody who jumps to such a conclusion frightens me-but then again, I'm the one who will fret and stress over an engine for days to rule out every other thing it could be.

This response is worth what it cost you

I would also guess stepper motor, I'd also check the various vacume and PCV lines.

1: Clean or replace stepper motor

2: Set base idle to correct spec

3: Place white one on jackstands and ask for a membership application to the White Rangie on Jack Stands Club
