ignition coil gets hot and wont run?

i have and 88 zuk stock 1.3 and it will run for about an hour and then die so we check spark no spark at coil and the coil is boilin hot so we put on another coil and it did it again
i have 14.2 volts at the alternater and the battery also at the coil is there a resistor or something before the coil to regulate it to exactly 12v
i cant figure it out so if someone could give me some clue i searched and drew a blank in the forums
thanks

i dont know about zuks,
my toyota has a magnetic pickup in the distributer, has the same symtoms, would run for a while until it got hot and then die and no spark.

just an idea.

if they are a mag pickup style, check resistance across when cold, then check again when it hot and dies.

This sounds like a distributor or grounding problem..run the factory service manual tests on your distributor.

Maybe the ballast resistor is shot and the coil is getting too much voltage ...

Unfortunately, in the Zook it is built into the ignitor/generator circuit inside the distributor. Your best bet is to get a known good used distributor. Not much else can go wrong with a coil.

First I'd suggest downloading the FSM form my site here:
http://www.virtualsoapbox.com/vehicles.htm

RUn all the tests on the coil and ignitor circuit to narrow the problem down.

Good luck!
