Let's get a Moab trip and photos thread going
Mostly cause the one on Mud is so cool
Me rolled down Weds night with 4 cruiserheads including cruiseroutfit (Kurt Williams). Mark from Mark's offroad was already in one of our spots and made for great music and company all weekend, thanks again Mark for the good times! Wheeled pritchett Thurs with Proffitt crew. Rig was largely untested, front FJ62 axle with aussie locker and 4x4labs highsteer, instsalled a Taco e locker in the rear with wiring, hydroboost brakes, new MTR's and a few other things all in the last couple weeks before going. Also was doing a headgasket on an Isuzu rodeo all before I left, ended up pulling an all nighter to get the isuzu done by Weds morning, luckily pretty much everything was done on cruiser on Sunday.... Anyway, could not believe how well rig did, was balanced well and climbed real well. At the top of pritchett I noticed a little gear oil leaking out of the rear axle but couldn't figure out where, didn't think much of it. Next day on Moab rim axle was leaking like a sive and I had nasty rear axle wrap, pinion was pointing dangerously high so I should have done a wrap bar. Got so bad it ripped a shock mount off. Used someone's onboard stick welder (don't know what brand it was but it was an awesome welder) and instead of leaking like a sive all over Moab rim I turned around and called it quits for the day. Turned out I badly mangled the thin rear axle housing, bent a perch into the housing and ripped 1/4" holes at the end of where the perches are welded in into the housing and that is where it was leaking. It also made my pinion angle bad, so instead of wheeling I basically called it quits and mostly because just wheeling pritchett was so cool that that alone made the trip. Left Sunday around noon. Noticed some smoke coming into cab and oulled over. Pinion angle was so bad that I blew a rear ujoint on the way home. FRont wheel drived it to the gas station in wellington where the subway is. Ran into caver in a cruiser who had a spare toy u joint. Spent about an hours and a half trying to change the ujoint with best tools I had it was really cooked and melted into driveshaft. Was getting too late so I just front wheel drived it the rest of the way at about 55 mph. Also have the locker up front and driveshaft that I made so not balanced but it did fine. That is it for me. Forgot my camera so no pics but if anyone has some I'd love to see them. If anyone has pics of my rig you can email them to andre@collegeinternetsolutions.com thanks!

Great writup Mark! Yes I limped home broken U joint and all but already scored a decent rear axle for $75 and this time will build it up right. Was definetely fun clicking away in front wheel drive with my homemade driveshaft but it actually got me home fine. I just talked to Dave, he is safely in Nebraska after spending a night in Carbondale and another in Boulder. He wanted me to let you know thanks for the wonderful hospitality and good times and I think that goes for all of us. Bummer we missed you Sunday morning but given the distance understandable. We were both pretty hung over that morning anyway so I am not sure if it would have made a difference - $2buck chuck! Hopefully we see you next year indeed! I am now shooting for Rubitrhon if possible so hopefully see you up there as well... Andre
