*LITTER Education Program – TRASH will equal CLOSURE – Take your
trash HOME*

*Dune closure is threatened** *if litter management is not improved.
The dunes MUST be LITTER FREE. Ravens and coyotes are predators of the
Desert Tortoise. The dumpsters are feeding grounds for ravens and
coyotes. The *Biological Opinion* issued by the USFWS *requires* that
the dumpsters must be raven and coyote proof. *All trash on the ground
must be immediately removed -- day and night. *Dumpsters service cost
nearly $200,000 last season. The new RAMP LITTER rules will cost
several times more than last year. BLM El Centro is running in the
red now. See the graph below. If your email system is not set to show
graphics, you can view the graph at
http://www.glamisonline.org/downloads/BudgetDilemma.jpg
{http://www.glamisonline.org/downloads/BudgetDilemma.jpg}

BLM will be forced to reduce or eliminate visitor services such as
medical and law enforcement. Watch for a series of Public Service
Announcements (PSAs) encouraging ISDRA visitors to pack their trash
HOME. DO THE MATH it will cost you nothing to carry your trash HOME.
You may be the one who needs the EMT that was not funded for next
season. You may view one of the new Litter Education PSAs at

*Sand Sports Super Show (SSSS) – Sept 16-18 in Costa Mesa, CA -
Brian Trapp, Chairman*

We've had our first meeting. We're so very fortunate that we have
the same committee as the previous 2 years!!! This show wouldn't be
the same without this wonderful group of people!!! They make it
happen!!! We have purchased new canopies for the ASA. They are 10' x
20' steel framed and also one enclosure kit. Now that the ASA owns
them they can be utilized at many more places/events without having
to rely on someone to donate them that is retired and often not home.
We're ordering some new banners for the ASA that can be attached to
the new canopies. We have the same site as previous years. Good
location for visibility but a bit on the noisy side but we'll deal as
always. The list for Exhibitor Badges and campsites for ASA volunteers
has been sent. The purchase of the advertisement for the ASA for the
SSSS program has been sent. We only need to wait for the text and
artwork to be completed and sent in. It will again be 1 full page
explaining what the ASA is. Flo Haynes is handling the merchandise
again and is on top of that. Trailer transportation is being taken
care of. ASA will have a seperate booth strictly for informational
purposes that will showcase our new PMV video along with the trash
and other issues at the ISDRA. All said, we'll be ready to be
brighter and better than ever before!

*Upcoming Events*

Two events are scheduled on the calendar in AZ this fall. Gary
Jordan will coordinate a Dune Info meeting at RATV/MX Warehouse in

Checkered Flag Chairman is coordinating this event.

CA events include the SSSS on Sept. 16 – 18 in Costa Mesa. The Off
Road Expo is scheduled for Oct. 8 - 9. The El Centro Big Boys show is
Oct. 7 & 8. The El Centro event will be managed by the UDG. Contact
Bryan Henry avgeek@sbcglobal.net {mailto:avgeek@sbcglobal.net}

*Volunteer Coordination *

We will be presenting a final draft plan for Volunteer Coordination
at the July 23 BOD meeting. The committee will consist of 3-5 people
that will coordinate the volunteer needs of Event Managers and
provide qualified and interested Volunteers. We hope to begin
implementation of this program for the SSSS. The plan will eventually
expand to include incentives for volunteers. If anyone is interested
in joining this committee, please contact: Lloyd Misner
