Looking for a LWB
First off I did search
The last couple of days I have looked for a lwb zuk or pick up style zuk in the states for sale. None in New Enland area or the rest of us for that matter that I could find. Any suggestions? I realize the search could take awhile but what I am most concerned with is will it be a waste of time, is there actually any out there, without cutting and fabbing my own. I have owned a few Zuks over the years and many yotas and they all suffer from rust. I am willing to do some resto work as I plan on throwing a kick engine in it with lower gears and toy axels. But I dont want to build for a couple of years before wheeling. Lastly if I cant secure a lwb or pick up sammy does anyone in the New England area have a lead on a decent project? thanx Chain |

Chain,
I looked for YEARS for a decent LWB in the states, with no luck. The few in Canada are rust buckets when you can find them. Luckily I found OKIE ZUK on these boards. Here's what he did for me: Took TWO samurais and stretched the WB from 85" to 100" (perfect for a 4x4). Unlike a factory LWB, it has very little rear overhang because it was stretched in the middle. He can do anything you want, stretch, coils, cages, etc.... REFLEXX |

I didn't look for years but stumbled on mine. I just mentioned in another thread that I fell into a great rig but it unfortunately was over 2500 miles away. The trip was phenominal and I met a ton of great people along the way. This rig is one that most likely I'll never get rid of, not only for it's rarity but because of that great trip.
Where are you located and how long are you willing to drive? Try Zookpower.ca if you really REALLY are willing to drive out there. I have a few friends in Winnepeg that are Zook enthusiasts. Also try the Canadian Auto and truck traders. I have seen LWB's (not trucks). I do know where there are a few trucks, sj410k's but you'll pay, I'm sure because they are owned by an ultra enthusiast, PM me if you're serious. I'd almost say if you can afford it, buy it. I lucked out that I could swing mine being a rather poor fulltime student myself luckilly the body was great but had some major flaws that kept it off the market. I made an offer, we came to an agreement and it's now safely packed away in storage awaiting a complete rebuild. |

LWB's
Well it took me over two years to find my first one.
During that time I had five fall through my finger tips (all in Canada). The one I got wasn't to bad. Then one day I found another one that had the body restored. It runs and drives (sort of, the carb is junk). So I sold my first one to get the second one. About a month or two ago I was kind of made a temping offer. The guy is working on getting the $$$ up. If this guy offers me close to his upper dollar figure he will own it. IF not, no big deal, I didn't plan on selling it in the first place. But he was talking a good price. My problem with keeping it is sooner of latter I am going to want to wheel it. It's just to clean to take out wheeling and take the chance. So once my shop/house is done I will start on a lite build up. I figure after a year of so it will get a couple of scratches and slowly I will relax and then who knows.

I'm dumping a lot of parts into mine but it'll be hard wheeling something that is deemed rare like that. That's why for now I have a Sammy to romp around and not care one bit about any kind of breakage.

WOW, I just figured I would have a tough time but unless money isnt a issue it seems they are like a cj8 or the holy grail (merely a flesh wound) I am **** outta luck....
I guess I will have to take reflexx's advice to fab my own but before I get there I need a sami to run now....and as stated rust is a major issue here.....I just got back from looking at an 85 toy pick up, they said 116,000 miles and very little rust. Well long story short its many monthss or many dollars from wheeling. And I have wheel my modified Tacoma but its pretty nice for the wheeling I am used to(and 2 years of payments left). Thanx for the replies Chain |

how's this for no rust, original paint! must have been stored for years. as far as i know, it's now working in a berry field in sussex, new brunswick, yes, Canada. the frame is a tad rusty but not too bad, there's LWB frames around here anyway. excellent shape inside too, anybody taller than 5'10" may be cramped tho
only problem is i think he shortened the box a bit, maybe you guys can tell for sure, there's another pick up 1/2 mile from my house, all original, not quite as mint but in very good shape, minor surface rust, old bastard refuses to sell as of yet.

They aren't that hard too find! I just picked mine up in New York. 24,000 km and rust free. The old fella in NY bought it 4 years ago in AZ and had been towing it behind his motor home.
