Dallas--->Austin: fly or drive?

Is there anything good to see/points of interest/lethal truck stop food between Dallas & Austin? If it's anything like the Houston/Drive, I'd rather spend time in the airport than on I35.

How long does it take, like 3 hours?
Sounds like road trip...

By the time you go to the airport, wait in line, then get delayed, you might as well drive it. If I remember correctly, it's not a spectacularly awesome drive, but to me it's better than being stuck in an airport and on a plane.

Unless you leave at 4 pm on a Friday night... on a COWBOY weekend... then I-35 becomes on pain in the ass parking lot!

Where from Dallas? Where to in Austin?

DFW Airport, oh what a pain to find your terminal & gate. Rental Car? Give youself an extra hour to get from the drop off to your terminal. (It really is one big airport).

Austin -- Airport is laid back. No "chains" for food, only local Austin Eating places. The motto "Keep Austin Wierd" is alive an true in the airport. Only 25 gates, hell it is so small they can not loose your luggage.

Austin Airport is Southeast of the city. Airport to downtown only takes 15 minutes, unless you hit rush hour on Friday afternoon. Then it will take at least 20 minutes.

That stupid, fawking unpredictable drive has taken me a little as 2 hours 45 minutes.. And as much as 6 hours.

Every god damned moron the the world tends to plow their face into the guard rail around Waco and fawk it up for everyone...

Can you tell how much I like making that drive?

anybody that flies out of DFW to go to Austin needs an ass kickin'

Southwest out of Love to Austin is the way to go, and if you watch Ding you can get tickets for $25 each way. That's $50 round trip.

That said though, I'd drive it. In fact I am at the end of the month.

Downtown Dallas to downtown Austin. Thursday, I'm headed to Dallas for 8 days. Sometime during the 27th and 29th, I need to be in Austin for a half-day meeting with a customer. So, I'd leave in the late afternoon/evening for Austin, then return to Dallas in the late afternoon/evening the next day. Due to forces beyond my control, I have to fly home from DFW. I've heard stories about Austin's legendary traffic jams.

You've obviously never been to DFW Airport

Oh, and I will never fly less than 500 miles again.

Well, not this year.... I've been there (DFW) 2-3 times per year for the past 4 years.
I've never had a problem with car rental/security/delays out of DFW. IAH has given me more headaches than DFW.

This weekend in ACL - Austin City Limits. It will be nuts in Austin (rooms booked months in advance).

Ya, either flying or driving is a crap shoot.

All time "mind blower" for me was a direct O'Hare to Austin. Flight was scheduled at 6:25... Last two customer bailed, so I ended up gettin dropped off at the airport at 2:42.

Walked up and the KIOSK WORKED (I'm on the no fly list, but the agent at Austin can set it up so I am cleared to use the KIOSK on the way home).

Security... walked up, no one in line. Whoa.

Stated to walk down "K" and noticed a 2:54 flight direct to Austin. No one in the terminal, walked up and asked if I could take an earlier flight home. Go right ahead Sir, let me get you a new boarding pass. Door closed behind me.

Yes, 7 MINUTES from the curb to taking my seat!!!! (mind you the other 99% of the time.... ) I really started to wonder if I had walked in the plane bound for "LOST".

If you fly Southwest you can fly out of Love much easier then DFW. I've taken the hop from Austin to Love and back in the same day for a business meeting. I was in Dallas less then 2 hours then back to work by 3 PM.

Very true. I once drove from Dallas to El Paso on I-20 & I-10. Talk about
a LARGE expanse of nothingness.

That's what I was gonna say! LOL!

WEST is the "Czech Heritage Capital of Texas" and the Kolaches there are friggin' AWESOME. We stop each and every time we drive down I-35 from Dallas to Austin.

You can also make a stop at Carl's Corner, TX and check out the "BioWillie" BioDiesel fuel stop. It's cool if you've got a diesel tow rig. Heck, if you're gonna rent a car, try to rent a diesel, just so you can stop there and get some vegatable oil based BioDiesel.

http://www.wnbiodiesel.com/locations...%20Corner.html

Those are both decent time wasters on that road trip.

I've driven both, I'll take any section of Texas over Kansas or eastern Colorado for that matter

I agree with those who said it's stupid to fly. Cripes you have a decent drive TO either airport that will be as bad as the worse part of the I-35 trip. I can't imagine flying to Dallas, I usually drove Tallahassee to Atlanta rather than drive it and it was a good 100 miles more.

Oh..if you wanna get a beer next week give me a shout
