Need prayers for the little guy and his parents

(Cliffnotes at bottom)
My new little nephew is in NICU. He was born Thursday, a good weight and everything. It wasn't realized until this morning that he had a big problem. His intestines were malformed and twisted. He couldn't hold anything down. His pediatrician gave the call to move him to NICU at the hospital he was born at thinking he had a blockage. After some x-rays they decided to move him to a hospital better equipped to deal with his condition and planned on doing surgery tomorrow.
A nurse at this NICU raised some flags and pushed to have the Berium (sp?) test performed today rather than tomorrow. After the test, the surgeon decided to take him to surgery right away. Reagan's appendix was located on the opposite side of where it should be so they took it out. Everything had to be rearranged since it was in the wrong order and all gathered to one side of his body. Part of his small intestine had to be removed. The surgeon told my brother had they waited until tomorrow, he wouldn't have made it. Good call on the nurse's part! Being surrounded by a good team of nurses and doctors has been amazing. Some of the nurses had worked with my mother. The pediatrician was my pediatrician long ago and is excellent. It really makes all the difference.
Anyway, he's recovering and is a strong baby otherwise besides a little jaundice. The OB/GYN discharged Mom early. Both of his parents are with him right now. He latched on to Mom's finger when she touched his hand even though he's heavily sedated.

Cliffnotes: Any prayers and good thoughts for him and his parents are appreciated. This is their first child. They're a bit stressed over it. Reagan will be in NICU for 2-3 weeks they expect. Anyway, not the way things should go, but it could be worse and it looks like he'll be fine.

He's a cute little fawker, but of course Aunt Muddin is a little bias

Prayers sent. Sounds like he is a strong baby and has all of his family's love behind him.

They picked a good name (Reagan), even if it is not spelled like mine and my son's middle name (Regan).

You have my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he will pull through. Amazing how strong they can be when they have good support. Congrats to the nurse for speaking up and not just sitting idle!!!

All my instincts say the little cutie will be just fine. Prayers to him, but he'll be fine.

I know a certain 7 year old who had a hernia operation and a bowel resection in his first week and he was a whopping 2 1/2 pounds at the time of surgery.

Your little nephew and mine can get together later in life and compare "shark bites."

Muddin our prayers are with you guys. Our little guy was burn November 14th last year and was put in NICU because they suspected the exact same thing. He couldn't keep anything down for those first few days and went through the same tests with the berium(sp) and stomach xrays. The docs rushed us in saying they needed our approval to do the tests as they thought they were going to have to operate on this tummy in the first couple of days. We were lucky and our little guy just decided he hated formula early on and there were no medical conditions. We did a lot of research on the surgery you and your friends are going into and it is quite common for little boys to be burn with malformed tummies and they all pull through just fine after the ordeal. It is just a traumatic start for the family and the lil guys.

On another note the NICU nurses and doctors are truly the most amazing people we have ever seen. The care and love they show all of these babies and the parents is overwhelming. That was the only thing really helping us through and I am sure that is a good thing for your friends also. I feel for them having to start out that way. We were an absolute train wreck for 5 days of that, we could barely stand at the end we were so tired.

Thanks to all of you. I can't imagine how the parents feel. I'm almost dead on my feet as well and I'm sure I've slept better than they have

Is that possible?

I'm taking many good lessons from this. This will be twice in one week that I've personally watched a nurse save someone's life. Lesson: Listen to the nurse.

Update

Yesterday they took him off the ventilator.

He doesn't like the tube down his throat which sucks out the gastric juices, but he's pretty comfy. He's able to sleep without any pain meds at all. Tuff little booger

They've already started him on Lipids and some other stuff with vitamins and minerals (I'd like to know the name, but my brother couldn't tell me what). They didn't think he'd be ready for that for at least another few days so he's ahead of schedule.
Yesterday was the first time I saw him without him sleeping. He looked me over good

I love him
