distributor square and round plugs

Swapped another 22r into an 84 truck this weekend. The engine in it had a round plug going to the distributor pick-up coil, the on I just put in has a square plug.

The color of the wires are the same, can I just make a short jumper wire to hook it up? I just need to see if this engine runs first before putting to much time in it.

What is the deal with the plugs changing shape? Is one dist a way off different year?

Cut the ends and SOLDER the wires to the new distributor don't try to use crimp connectors on those wires
