air curtians, plastic dividers they use in doorways of freezers
Where could I find this type of thick vinyl to make my own curitain? You know the stip type ones you can walk through. I have a swing out garage door made out of plywood and for the winter I don't need vehicle access in and out. It's getting cold.. My assumption is that this would be easier than trying to insulate the door and all its gaps etc. I am open to suggestions if there are alternate ideas for insualting a door cheaply.

Dont know if this will help you or not, I was looking for the exact same thing for my dog house. I found a place that sells it but will only sell it in rolls of 50' sections. And that shiat is high, its like 3 bucks a foot. And that was the cheapest place I could find.
Throw some attic insulation on the door and find a good heater. |

Virtually any thick/heavy plastic will work.

Cheapest way is to get a roll of plastic from the home improvement store and staple it up. It will keep out the air and is cheap if you need to get out and then you just put new up.
Rool the last couple inches on each edge and staple or nail a pc of dowel/wood down so the edges of the plastic are sealed.....this is probable under $10 for plastic and staples.....it'll keep the wind out and that's what's cold. Good luck Bansil |

If it's cheap you want, Bansil's method works great. And to add to that, you can buy a zipper that works with this method. You just stick it in the middle of the plastic and you have in/out access. Been doing this for years on construction jobs, and I'm in a cold climate (0 degrees F. as I type this). I use the thickest plastic I can find...usually 6 mil. Both can be found at home improvement stores.
tip: put the zipper on in a warm room and reinforce with duct tape hope this helps, good luck. |
