71 Jeep Wagonner w/Buick 350 V8 114,000 miles
Runs but needs a bit of work...
Nice stock Jeep with staight body and mimimal surface rust in paint dings etc. No body rot as far as I can tell since this is a CA car. Has only 5 upgrades that I can think of off hand. Tires and 15 x 7 wheels off an 89 Ford 4x4 truck. Silver factory Ford steel spoker style wheels with the factory trim rings has a lot of backspacing so it would be easy to tuck larger tires on this truck. Currently on 31" BFG's. Has Hellwig overload helpers on the rear. Halogen european H4 headlight upgrade with true 130 watt bulbs. Almost new top of the line dual terminal battery. Class 3 hitch with super roomy back seat seat 3 large adults comfortably. Has a chrome drain pan I believe with a drain plug on the Turbo 400 tranny that is in great condition other than a slight slow pan gasket leak. Currently the fuel tank was removed as a bracket holding the tank broke causing the tank to shift and a brake clip wore a hole in the tank. Took tank off and had it stripped and repainted. Truck has a boat tank installed to move it around my place easily. All glass is good and does not leak, some windows and locks are a bit stiff from non use--just need lube--rear power window is lazy and needs some lube but does go up and down with some hand pressure help. Needs rear shoes installed on one rear wheel--did one side already. Has brand new master cylinder but system wil need more bleeding after new shoes are installed. The bad part is I flushed the 4 core custom made radiator a few years back and after I drained it I never refilled it as I had intended to have the radiator flushed out as I saw a few loose rock like pebbles in the top of the radiator. Well I now see that since I never flushed/diluted/refilled the radiator the "experimental" radiator flush I was testing for Mecca Evans Coolant company seems to have continued to eat at all the alluminum components on the engine. So the aluminum, thermostat housing, water pump and the timing chain cover will need to be replaced. I believe there is a hole in the timing chain cover so water can enter the coolant but it may have just ate away at a gasket surface--I really don't know. The radiator and I'm assuming as far as I can tell steel block surfaces are fine. Anyway started it yesterday and it does not smoke or make any unusual noises so I believe the engine is basically sound. Could possibly use a valve job as it seems a bit rough but its been like this the last ten years or so and it needs the common Buick oil pump upgrade as the oil pressure can be low on a hot day when idling but this normal on all high mileage Buicks and it too has been this way for about the last ten years. Like to get $1500 b/o. I have a spare Buick motor out of my drag/play car that has been pulled because I thought the HG was blown but it was just a pinhole in a rear freeze plug. This engine runs fine and is available for sale if the offer is suitable--this engine has all the Kenne Bell goodies in it--Big .490 lift cam, special rockers and springs, T/A alumimum 4 barrel manifold, T/A chrome headers, big gear oil pump mod, Stage 3 Carburator Shop carb, DUI HEI etc etc... Problem here is the parts are worth more than the engine could sell for...heck new these parts are worth more than I'm asking for this truck! Truck has been in constant registration so it qualifies for the CA $700 scrap program if you want to use this as a parts truck but I can't see why anyone might want to do this as this truck is complete and very restorable. Anyway pics can be taken if anyone is interested... Jason
