i'm kinda sure it is after we ran it 30 min it would still puff a bit... i felt teh endplay on teh turbo and it wasn't real stiff.... and there was oil in teh crossover tube, so i have a felling a CT26 is in my future!

Buy a Garret T3/T4

why ct26 you can get a garrett T03 or T04 for $450 brand new! the Garrett turbos are much better than the std CT20 and are much cheaper to buy and rebuild. They are also less prone to cracking in the exhaust housing. You can adapt one to your stock toyota turbo manifold with a piece of 3/4" steel plate drilled out as an adapter flange.

T03 is too stinkin small, and the T04 you will still have to spend a couple hundred on a wasgate. How much is the t3/t4 hybrid?

Holy cow, they offer the T3/T4 hybrid for $450 too, can barly get the ct-26 upgraded for that.

Dude, DSI go witht eh T3/T4 hybrid. Good turbo for smaller engines. Good for 300-350hp.

The hybrid gets really good spool, and has the wasgate built in. Great deal there. Dang, still wish I had my 4A MR2. I wanted to turbocharge that.

The ct-26 is too big for the 22R. If the 22R could rev to 7000rpm, then it could use the ct-26.

Bringing this back from the dead.

What exactly did you do to prepare this motor to run for the first time in 10 years?

I've got an '86 22re with 125,000 on it, hasn't been started in 5 years. It has the same oil, gasoline, coolant and everything that was in it when I parked it.

My plan was to put Mystery Oil in the cylinders, drain the gas tank, drain the oil and put fresh in. Then what, just crank the main pulley around?

Or stick a flathead screwdriver bit in the distributor hole to run the oil pump with a drill? That may sound fawked, I remember it from an 80s Hot Rod about resurrecting old engines.

ummmmm, we run CT26s on heaps small engine (2.0 and 2.2, up to 3.0) litre engines and even thought the motors are tiny they run well with it on them..... and they limit at 4500rpm

We put some oil down the cylinders, cranked it over by hand for a bit and fired the bitch off.

You guys must have real strong drills over there in the U.S to be able to turn the engine over so the crank can turn the pump

Sorry i know it works in clevo's and windsors and a few other engines but the oil pump on a 22RE is driven by the crank. The dizzy is driven by the cam shaft.

Shit ... A T3 would be plenty for a 22R - It will support abit over 300 hp and over 20 psi of boost - can always upgrade the wheels while ur at it too

Im prolly gonna go hybrid in my car and 300 hp im thinkin good for 12's in the 1/4

Wish I hada supercharger or a 4.3 turbo engine for my toy

What, you don't think my 3/8" B&D can turn that engine over?

Thanks, that's what I needed. Yeah, it was old V8s they were talkin about.

Guess it's time for the ratchet. I may d/c the coil, pull all the plugs, and crank the starter for a few 10 second runs.
