need buick 455 info

been searching,all forums,and have found lots of hits,but no real info.

basically i need to know how to positively ID an engine out of a car. its supposedly a a 455 4bbl from a 72 buick electra.

any links to ID,or general info would be appreciated.

also,where do i find a flywheel? will one from a buick 350 work? if i do this swap,theres no way in hell im goin back to a slushbox.

i to are looking for specs for this motor, i found one this week for short money and was wondering if its better for me to grab this motor or look for a a 454, jason.

these moters when tinkered with make well more than 500 ft pd of tourqe at 2000 rpm so give it a try. a few years back hot rod mag done a motor dyno and the buick was the had the most power oh well just my 2 cs

The Chevy will make cost less $$$ for the same power. The advantage of a Buick is it weighs about the same as a small block Chevy and has a long stoke so it makes a lot of HP/torque at a low RPM where it does a lot of good for wheeling.

Here's a good site for buick casting numbers. I'm sure you found the big 455 stamped at the top of the bell housing area of the block.
Both head and block numbers will steer you straight, the vin is also stamped on the block the sixth digit is the year 2=72.
