Got the green light for my Runner's SAS

My wife told me last night that since we've sold the F350 I could SAS the Runner. So I'll be ordering parts next week and hope to get everything done by mid Apr.

I'm selling the SAS parts I had which was only the 44044 springs and Budbuilt tie rod. After pricing the parts from Trail Gear that I'd need to finish the SAS I'd be better off just buying the whole SAS kit from then, the same goes for the rear.

I'm going to get the 85 front axle tomorrow for only $150 hub to hub.

So the new shopping list is,

From Trail Gear,
Rock Sliders
Solid Axle Swap Kit 5 Inch Springs
Rear Lift, 5 Inch Springs

For the gearing and locker,
Already have the ARB in the rear and for the front I've found a Elocker for $200 plus shipping. My other option is to move the ARB up front and get a full Detriot locker for the rear. Gears are going to be Yukon 5.29s or 5.71s. I think I may go with the 5.71s cause my engine doesn't have enough power for turn the 32"s with 4.56s. I'm not going to be going dual T cases any time soon either. The whole myth that 5.71 gears are weak is untrue, Zuk the toyota gear god clears that up on his site.

Tires/wheels,
36" or 37" Goodyear hummer tires and recentered hummer double bead locks for trails and I'm going to look for a cheap set of 35" A/T tires for the street (later on)

Drive shafts,
Not sure cause I know that there is a custom drive shaft shop here in Jax so I'll just give them a call when I get to that point.

I'm hopping to get around $1k out of some my old parts. The front diff on my Runner has Auburn LSD. I also have Downey’s 26mm Torsion Bars and the OME lift. I'm sure I could get around $500 for the 5 32" BFG M/Ts that all have close to 70% or better life left. I also have the 44044 springs and budbuilt tie rod.

I'm going to keep the ARB bumper and have it made to fit with the SAS. I'm going to sell the Warn M8000 winch and get a T-Maxx 10k to replace it.

If anyone see something that I missed/forgot/didn't think about please tell me.

Steven

Congrats on getting the OK. Order the parts as soon as possible, before she can change her mind...

I'm glad I am not married, I couldn't imagine needing to ask permission to work on my own vehicles.

I'd try to make some money on the e-locker I scored and get either another arb or a detroit like you said. The "myth" about 5.71 gears is not a myth. You can get away with running them for a while especially under a sami which is much lighter and has hardly any power at all. (I've had 4 of them). Stick with the 5.29's and either save for dual cases or swap in a motor. A 22r powered rig is lucky to be able to get out of its own way, thats just how it is. You could afford dual cases if you put chevys in the back instead of Trail gear springs. then you dont have to sell the budbuilt.

Why are you selling a Warn winch and getting a Tmax instead??? Your M8000 will be plenty of winch for that truck if thats the issue?

Get some sliders made of DOM instead of HREW.

I'd go with rears up front instead of TG springs and chevy rears, save some $$ for a crawler...its the bet MOD you will make, hands down.

X2 on sticking with 5.29's. Most of us run 35's - 40's with 5.29's and they do just fine, it's not a race car it's a truck. I'd also keep the warn that you've got unless you're getting a killer deal on the t-max. I'd save up a little more $$$ and do the double cases now so that your D-shaft up front is perfect the 1st time around. You'll hate life without at least a set of 4:1 gears in the t-case. Just me $.02. Congrats on getting the green light!

DUAL CASES! do it, i havent even takin my truck out of the shop yet (still building) and I sit in it for hours just doin slow burnouts in 2wd, hi, hi at idle! with the biggest grin on my face. BTW i got 5:29s and they are almost to much for my 35s, id say 5:71s are not really needed. Oh and congrats on getting off the leash

This is so true, I got $24k out of it which was $1500 less then my asking price.

Alot of you are give me shit about asking the wife to work my truck. Whatever I have a 2 year old little girl too and the F350 payment was HIGH $548 and when insurance got added in it was around $600 a month. I'm not on a leash, I just didn't want to put a $$$ hurt on our income. I don't ask her to buy anything but LARGE items that's going to cost a good bit $$$$. But she's going to be pissed when I get done SASing it and I'm sure she'll get over it like she did with all the other $$$$ hobbies I'v had.

I've decided not to run the 5.71s and stick with the 5.29s. I told the guy with the E Locker I'm going to get it but I'm not sure I'm going to use it, I think I'll keep it simple in the rear with the Detoit. I have a friend wants the E Locker. I am going to buy the Trail Gear parts instead of Chevys and stock rears like a couple you said I should.

See I knew I forgot something. Bob's 30 splines will take care of that. I'm going to get those after I get it together and on the road.

I'm going to DD it for about 6 months and buy another truck cash so there's not going to be a car payment.

Thanks for the opinions guys. Its Fri. and its Miller time...

They'll come later.. I didn't see I wasn't going to run them just not any time soon. Like someone already said I'm atleast going to run the 4.1 gears is a single.
