I have not stayed at the Vista Verde Ranch but I have spent a few days in Steamboat and you should really like it.
Steamboat IMO is one of the neatest areas in Colorado. I have spent time up their stock car racing, snowmobiling and high school sports. One of the great things about the Steamboat area is the small town ranch feel that I get while there but it is still a destination resort area.
Bobzooki might have a little better insight about Vista Verde than I do.
