e4od shifting hard

only sometimes though. really smooth other times.
if its on its way out, i dont think i'm gonna trust it out in the woods.
runs about 125-150 degrees. no slipping, other than really smooth shifts, then later on really hard shifts, it seems to be fine. does at any rpm, or throttle position.
never did this till two days ago.
any ideas?

Something going on, but might be a simple repair. When the ECM sees something it doesn't like it'll crank the line pressure way up so you can get it home. It's called "limp home". Also sometimes it'll stay in second gear and not upshift or downshift. Take it to a trusted tranny shop and get them to check it for codes. The tranny might be getting ready to crap the bed, but maybe not. The ECM requires a bunch of inputs to determine shift strategy. If any of those inputs are off, you'll get symptoms like you mentioned. Could be as simple as a flaky throttle position sensor or somesuch. Hooking up a scanner to the ECM will usually point you in the right direction...

Good Luck....

i have a scanner, guess i should have checked that before posting.
i have a puter outta a lighting. its a c3p1. i have a fairly well built motor, and the stock computer did like what was going on.
the lighting computer is made for an e4od. its been in there for about 4 months with out any problems.
it has been rather hot out today. i dont know if heat has anything to do with it or not, since the gauge still had it running at a decent temp.
last time the tranny was apart(15k miles ago) the shop said it was in great shape.
i was thinking it might be a computer problem since it is smooth most the time, and seems to only be harsh after a few miles on the hwy at 70-80mph. get of the interstate, and then it shifts hard.
i'll check codes tomorrow.

Mine does that too. All winter, spring and fall it runs and shifts nice and firm, but after a long run on the highway during hot summer days, it likes to bang through the gears for a while after getting back into city traffic. Never got any codes. The shop that rebuilt it 12k ago said to try and remove the electrical connectors and clean them, did that but mine still does it on hot summer days....

mine stays cold, big cooler, and a fan. i think its sensor relater. only does it when the motor runs over about 190 degrees. i also noticed that none of this
happend till we had 90+ days.
