Pikes Peak "Race to the Clouds" 2006
Had a blast
![]() Some pictures: link Boy do they move! It was tough to get pictures of them. Some of them were clocked over 100mph. We arrived at the gates at 3:30am so we could pick out a good spot. It was great to watch the sunrise. They had to stop mid race to shoo a bear off the road. ![]() They were taping the race to show on the Outdoor Channel sometime in September. A video: hope_it_works From where we were sitting, the front corners of the cars were about 8 feet away as they turned (drift style) on a tight switch back. Oh, about the unlimited. The track conditions were absolutly perfect. Not too dry, not too wet. The unlimited was expected to break a world record. As the day went on, the weather turned ugly and they had to push the finish line back to Devil's Playground. By the time the unlimited ran, the track was too slick. The only picture I have of him is when he was coming back down the mountain after a race. He was just too fast to catch

I drove that road back in the 1970's with a 1972 Ford Pinto. By the time I
got to the top it would only go about 25 mph.
