The Eyes of Texas...

Here's an experience for you: I walk out from the airport terminal in a suit and tie, and instead of getting into a taxicab, a shuttle bus or a limo, I got to ride in a pristine 1969 Iron Pig! You should have seen people's faces!

I just got back from a two day interview tour of San Antonio and Dallas, where I had a chance to see Nolen again and inspect his Cruiser fleet. The Iron Pig looks even NICER than it does on the pictures, what a cool ride. After a quick meal (cold beer and the biggest burrito I've ever had), we drove back to Nolen's house. Mind you, it's a nice, quiet neighborhood, the kind of place where neighbors wave and people take pride in their carefully manicured lawns and gardens, probably the *LAST* place you would expect a gigantic (this thing makes the Princess look like a grocery getter again), *bright red* FJ40 shoehorned into a garage! Nolen, I loved your Cruiser, man, I like seeing well-thought out, well modified Land Cruisers that are wheeled hard and still look nice; for some reason, this is not common on the East Coast, where four shades of paint and three of primer are considered a badge of honor!

Seriously, I wanted to thank Nolen publicly for his hospitality and say that I can't wait to see some shots of him and Kate at the Proving Grounds and Helldorado, Henry Brimmer should get plenty of calendar material!

Nolen I mailed your check. The Fed Ex guy gave me the stink eye when he came dragging up the sidewalk with the door.

Sloan,

Do you realize that you could have had it sent via FedEx FOR FREE?? I was at Nolen's a couple Saturday ago, up from a weekend layover in Austin. If I had known that the door needed to be shipped, I would have taken it with me down to Austin, then the next morning I flew to Memphis then to LA in the afternoon. I would have gotten weird looks hauling a door around, but I've seen weirder things go through Memphis!

I had an SM420 "wanna be" and a Warn 8274 delivered via FedEx recently and I have a killer downhill driveway. My local driver used to like me!!
