growing fruit trees from a seed (pit)?
So say you are sitting there eating a peach or a plum and your down to the pit, can you take said pit, toss it in a pot of dirt and water and wait for it to grow or what?

maybe you need to keep it on your kitchen window sill in a glass of water with some toothpicks til it sprouts.. like an avocado pit.

With the plum its neccecary to dry the "seed" first. You can also remove the hard part of some of them and dry the rest. Then plant em all and it should work.
The peach doesn't need drying, but it will take at least 6 months for ANYTHING to sprout. :-)

I did it with lemon seeds and got a tree out of it. I bet it's around 9 or 8 years old but only about 3' tall. I've kept it indoors in a smallish pot. I'm an apartment dweller so I don't really have a way to plant it. It even survived a 25' fall out a window once.

We planted a grapefruit seed about ten years ago in a pot. We now have a grapefruit tree that is ~12-13 feet tall (yes, we have re-potted over time) and doesn't produce fruit

As for avacados I've never gotten the toothpicks and water to work, for me I just stick em in dirt and water them, and despite what some people may think, that works. Hal |
