Steel thief stymied! I caught one!!!

About an hour ago, I was dropping some parts off at the shop and saw a pickup pull into my neighbor's parking lot and the driver starts pawing through the steel scrap until he saw me on the phone. Of course, I was on the phone to 911. When the guy started yelling at me and I responded, the dispatcher told me not to engage him in conversation. I responded with if he takes one more step, I'm engaging him in gunfire. I was politely asked not to .

In less than two minutes, five police cars arrived with seven cops! I told the dispatcher I was securing my sidearm and the officers should know this. One of them came over and asked me the obligatory questions-I provided phone numbers for my neighbor, etc. I was thanked for securing my sidearm as well.

Sadly, I caught him before he had put anything into his truck and they released him with a warning he'll be arrested for trespass if he comes back to either my place or the neighbor's. The cop who asked me the questions was very vocal about how out of sight my shop was and he told me I "should" be armed when there at night.

Score one for the good guys. Hopefully this piece of shit won't be back to steal from me or anyone else.

Peace,
PT

You should have let him load something up. Or coerced him unto your property. Then called the cops.

Then when the cops got there, he started yelling "he's got a gun". To which the cops responded "We know, he told us".

Some dude stopped by my house the other day with a POS trailer and a F150 2wd pickup. Said he lost his job and saw some of my junk from the road. said he'd clean it up. There was not enough there for me to waste time to haul it in, been waiting for it to pile up. I gave him a a circa 1805 cement mixer, a JD 404 planter (always hated that thing anyways)and some misc scrap. he was happy and polite as hell. Why do people gotta steal?

Don't know, everyone who has ever picked up my scrap has asked first. One even offered to pay me a few bucks for it but heck I'm just grateful to get it out of here.

I understand the wanting to help somebody out, but two weeks ago, somebody busted open the back of one of my trucks and stole an almost entire Land Rover body from me, along with four almost new steel Land Rover rims. 'Bout $1000 worth of stuff that got sold for $35.

I'm trying to make a living too.

It IS legal for me to use outside storage where the shop is. It is NOT legal for someone to steal my stuff!

I have my own stupid scrap stealing story. See we have alot of scrap, both regular steal and stainless and aluminum scrap plush machine shavings. So, one day my uncle was at our shop doing some paperwork. It was a Saturday. He glances out the window and lo and behold an employee of the shop next door was looking through our scrap pile. Needless to say the owner of the shop was notified post haste and it hasn't happened since.

I told the cop that and he said they'd know who to go get!

With luck, soon I'll have a shop at the house.

I never claimed it was good, just that something similar happened. Next time something like this happens I'll be sure to knee cap the guy with a .45. Would that be better?
