legend class trucks. water in front tires

wondering if any legend class trucks run water in the front tires. if so how much. do not need to be on the money with weight or gallons. just wondering if they run water at all. i have asked around and am getting mixed information.

I don't run a ProMod car but most folks actually run steel shot instead of water. In my supermod car I usually run about 200-250 lbs in each front tire.

In Aus Most Pro Mods are running some water in the Fronts. I know one that runs a little in the rear as well. When i competed in the 2005 season i ran water to the top of the rims up front and the bottom of the rims out back. Dave Camp has driven my rig for the 2006 season and i know he is running water in the front but not sure how much or if any in the rear.

Lead is illegal so if you do run it, you do run the risk of a penalty...many people now run steel but the term "lead" got so ingrained (like Frisbee vs. Flying Disc), some people continue to call it lead, even though it's not...right Weston?

We run ballast from RockStomper and or MRW so yes, we do run weight. Our personal use on the crawlers we run ranges from 150 total in the fronts to over 700 lbs in the fronts at certain events in our SuperMod. Never have we run more than 175 total in the Pro Mod...most of the time 90 in the left, 60 n the right...to help the torque lift of the left front on throttle climbs.

BUT, each crawler and team has their preference. Some prefer water, some prefer ballast such as shot or media (steel weight), some prefer nothing.

Best of luck on your set up!

Heheh... I ran across a photo in one of the mags of shot in a tire, with rust discoloration visible in the pic, and "lead" in the caption.

Stuck in my mind because I even discussed with the photographer (it was one of my tires, being swapped for one without ballast) the whole water/lead/steel/empty tire philosophy.

To answer the actual question, yes, water is often used in ProMod rigs, but usually much less so than in SuperMods. Personally, at the last couple events, we ran light (anybody who knows what our rig weighs without ballast is laughing right now) but if an event is largely big steep climbs, ballast seems to help.

I don't know what you are talking about Dustin. I clearly said steel, take a look

Your best bet will be to just try it and see how the vehicle performs. The weight and type of ballast will vary depending on the vehicles weight, COG, suspension setup, balance, etc. Water is the easiest to experiment with, but also a little tricky to tune for both weight and PSI.

I ran shot in mine...I'll say more than 100lbs and less than 500lbs. Does that help?

Traction is MUCH less of an issue on Manmade courses (as compared to natural) in my limited experience. If you don't need water for weight bias issues... don't use it.

Yer we run water all round Fronts are full rears about half full.Good thing with water is its cheap and easy to replace, bad thing is it will find it way out of a really small hole, you have a air leak you have a water leak,
onething no one has touched on is the extra load this weight puts on your driveline.Things that once were strong enough can become easlly broken if care is not taken,You will find out if your driveline is strong enough pretty quickly.

Yes, on man-made, a tire with 1/2 or less tread on it is better than a new tire.
