1st day of Preschool...
...or, How to make your parents feel like complete shit 101
Our 4 year old entered his 1st day of preschool today in brilliant toddler form..kicking and screaming. I knew something was afoot as I was dressing him in his new clothes that Grandma bought just for his special day. "These jacket sleeves are too puffy, I need another jacket". I knew it was all over. He was calm and collected on the way to school, silent in the way an inmate on the way to the chair is. He entered the classroom quietly, and was immediately surrounded by gaping 4 year olds. Up Mommy's shirt his head went, and there it remained. (this is also my favorite place to be) The techers recommended a clean break, kiss and bolt, we'll handle the rest. I am not sure they have ever seen the strength available to the spawn of Satan, but they have now. He was literally torn from Mommy's jacket as she rushed out the door. I am rather impressed that she did not come home bawling as well. I am going to call there in an hour or so to see how things are going. I have always heard horror stories about the first day, so I was mildly prepared for the anxiety and stress involved, but we shall see.... To be continued....

always a lot of fun. I'm sure you've heard it before but remember; it's a lot harder for us than it is for them. My 2yo was like that a lot during the short time that he went to a daycare. Shortly after we left he was fine everytime

You wanna know what'll make you feel really shitty? They are only like that for as long as they think you can see/hear them. So it's your own damn fault.

hah! just called the preschool, he was wound up for about a half hour, then relaxed...currently making an art project...he has been in daycare type environments before at church, but not for a while. my 2 year old is loving life right now, he has the whole house to himself without big brother smashing him to the ground or playing "I'm not touching you" (my fault, I love that game)... this is an all day type preschool, so I won't pick him up till 5 or so...

Classic! I've already used the "Hey, what's that over there?!!!" and run technique with my daughter on the day my mom and dad watch her
![]() She's really good though, it's pretty rare anymore that she's clingy. I'm sure pre-school time will be a different story, lol...

You're leaving a 4 yr old for 8-9 hrs at a daycare?
3 -4 hrs is plenty at that age. I just couldnt stomach the thought of strangers spending more time with my child than I was, so we did half days about 6 months out of the year from 4 till he was 6.

Thats cool, mom needs a break sometimes. I know people that send their 8 week old babys off to 9 hrs or more of daycare, for 5 years then send them to the govt daycare for the next 12 years, and then wonder why their kid turned out to be a ditzy dingbat with no morals.

It gets better. I also call him to tell him how much I'm becoming him (my father). All of the things my father did that drove me nuts have become my habits.

8-9hrs...thats nothin...she's done 10 while *I* did 10... mine's hip the the "whats that"...now I have to get the teachers to distract her..and even then it only works 40%...I usually just tell her Im leaving..give her a kiss..peel her hands off me..and go to work while she throws a fit...it only lasts about 2min and then she's off playing... ![]() *EDIT*..but her daycare is RIGHT across the driveway from the maint shop I work at..so its not like I dont pop in and check on her a few times a week...she's in good hands..

Are my wife and I some sort of twisted freaks?
Here's our typical dropping-off-at-preschool conversation: "Here you go, honey. We'll be back for you in about ___hours. You want to go play with the dollhouse or the chalkboard?" "I'm going to play with the dollhouse, because [insert very long-winded 3-year-old's explanation of impending random tales of make-believe]." "Ok, have fun... love you *kiss, hug*" Maybe it's just because I'm awesome.

It helps immensely that her Sunday school and preschool are in the same building. Nonetheless, I'm still going for my awesomnity being the cause.

Its nice that shes close by so you can see her. In about 3 years she will be asking for the car keys. With me its just a personal decision, Mrs Roundhouse was pregnant with twins, so we knew daycare was out of the question because of the cost. She lost one of the twins at about 6 months, & spent many days in the hospital, docs advised aganst having any more children. so after the baby was born we just didnt feel right about the daycare thing, it hurt, cause the Mrs was making more money than me. We ate lots of baloney and mac&cheese and ramein noodles. then she got a job offer at a place where she could bring the baby to work with her,& decent money too.

also I spend all the rest of the time with her..she travels with me to events and outings..so its not like I dont spend any time with her...just I work 8hrs..and she has to goto daycare..otherwise we're in a cardboard box..we live in a society that necessitates 2 incomes...the job my wife has is in her field..and pays well enough its worth working...and gives her a feeling of self worth....and I understand the cost of daycare..its about 1/4 of what *I* make a month..and my daughter gets to interact with children her own age..so she is socially ready for school..but with 2 kids it wouldnt be worth one of us workin... however...IF my wife made more money than me...I would be a stay at home dad...it only makes sense..
