Pics of My New Baby

There he is... kind of cute, isn't he? Just brought him home last night at 8:30

He's not very big yet, but he's going to grow fast..

Oh, can't make him out? Here you go, a closer picture...

That's him there in the middle... 12' pin oak... Lost most of his leaves already... He should give me some great shade next summer, and some nice color next fall.

Speaking of color, I finally am getting fall color out of my landscaping...

Brown color...

There *is* a little bit of red in there, but not much...

Most of the leaves on my smaller vine maples and big leaf maples have fallen. On the other hand, my Japanese Maples in the front yard are not changing color yet... still green as summer... but, at least they are not curling up and dying yet...

But then, these flowers are a bit confused. This was a wildflower garden this summer... for some reason, these flowers decided to wait until fall to start blooming... Pretty flowers, if I could figure out what they were, I would plant a bunch more for some late season color...

Your neighbors' house looks like it was born without a soul.

I was kind of hoping it was a nice robust pot plant.

Brand new house, been sitting empty for a couple months now... no buyers... It does look very... soul less...

Serves them right for cutting down the forest that was there...

Every time someone comes to the house, I send the kids out onto the trampoline to bounce and yell and make lots of noise playing..

I already had one person ask me if we ran a childcare... because of all the kids' stuff we have in the yard... I guess no one wants to live by a child care center...

Eh... in a few years, my maples and oaks will be tall enough to create a visual barrier... in about 10 my firs will be tall enough to be a real screen...

Crap I have to cut down a dozen of them a year growing where I don't want them. Same with Hickories. Want me to send them to you? They are like weeds here.

Here is a picture of my shack:

The tree I am under is a 70ft tall Magnolia that at its bast has to be 8ft around. The tree closest to the light on the left is a Japanese Black maple. Out of the frame to the left is a Pin oak that is about 15ft. and to the left of it is White oak that is about 20ft. The tree behind the Japanese is a Dogwood. The biggest tree behind the house you see is a white oak I may have to cut down. its around 80ft and if it falls it will flatten the house. There is a poplar and a hickory to the left of it.

This is after I removed 15 70+ ft pines one Cherry that was too close to the house and one Hickory that hung over the house dropping nuts that was driving us "nuts" with noise.

That is a nice yard and very well landscaped. I still say you should take up drinking, smoking, drinking REd Bull, swinging, SOMETHING to take up your time.

He's cute. You can never have enough oaks. I grew up with two huge and ancient California live oaks and two large mimosa trees in the front yard. Kept the house cool in the summer and kept the rains from beating on the house in the winter. Plus the privacy factor.

Stupid new owners have cut down nearly every tree on the property. It's very barren looking now. Those poor old oaks are gone forever. Trees we used to climb and fall out of. The apricot tree we canned fruit from. My pet weeping willow...all gone.

LOL.. hey now, at worst it is a sin of ommission... but when asked, I did tell them that, no, it is not a daycare.. we just have lots of noisy kids... and we often have lots of relatives, friends, neighbors, etc over at our house playing outside... Can't fault me for giving them the truth....

Yep, trees hanging over the house, especially big trees, are a problem. But, my trees are all babies.. no significant trees on my property, so I am starting my own forest from scratch..

Well, between murdering moles, planting trees, mowing the grass, playing with the kids, hanging with the wife, and keeping the liberals up here in line, I just don't have time for any more vices....

Well, since I am usually the crazy old guy out there with them yelling and hollering louder than any of the kids, you are probably right...

I counted yesterday, I have planted well over 40 trees on my property in the last three years...

I have about a dozen two foot cedar saplings in my nursery that I will transplant tomorrow. I need to move two azaleas, these bloom brilliant red, but they are hidden so you can't really see the color, plus a boxwood that the previous owner put in a ridiculous place... Perfect time of year for planting... lots of rain, not too cold...
