'85 Xcab DD bed-build
first Toy, first post in Toy section. had jeeps for a long time. making this into a winter runner, daily driver.
just look at the rust. this rig is in "good shape" for the salt bath i live in. i laugh when i see desert people say thier shit is rusty because it turned a bit orange. this rig was worth about $1500 in my used market, just because it wasn't broken/rusted in half. just close to it. the start: ![]() rotten bed. i got this far by hand. ![]() how rotten will it be? nice shackle angles too ![]() had to remove the entire inner frame wall to the cab, both sides. including crossmembers/gas mount/middle crossmember under the cab. ![]() ![]() frame repaired: ![]() ![]() simple crossmember and shock mount ![]() prep for ubolt flip ![]() now there is something to "start" with. keep in mind this thing won't see over 35's. 33's for immediate future. well aware it would be tinfoil with big running gear and rubber. thx for looking. |

generic bumper from under the patio.
![]() ![]() built one of those "gottrikes" benders. (this post is not running in real time!) 1.5" sch.40 pipe die. ![]() flatdeck frame. want a usable area back here for, well, "pickup" duties. buying steel and axles with a car sucks. need this little rig to build more jeeps. ![]()

just outta curiousity, how much did it cost you to make the bender? i have been looking at the plans, it seems ok, but am still a little skeptical

looks good so far, picked up an 83 project that looks very similar, except my frame isn't rotting at all, at least not that I've found (knocking on wood with fingers crossed)

bender cost about $200 for material. i do my own machine work, and had the die already. for me living in Canada, the cost is well below getting a protools or jd2 across the border (brokerage fees) and shipping on 200lbs.
the vertical bending is tits, way less room in the shop needed. but if i was in the states, it would have been easier to just buy one of the commercially avail. ones. can't beat that vertical bend tho. winter is coming! nice to keep the truck in the shop. |

Thanks for the idea dude, Im building one as well, and do not want to drill holes in the tube for the feet.. I will just weld on some of those long nuts.

may be a "salt bath" but it's a beautiful spot-been there. i have seen worse frames believe it or not. nice build. blast, prime, paint before you cover everything up. do folks still fill the frame rails with drain oil up there?
