Do you remember when-

when;
radios were AM (there was no FM)
car batteries were 6V.
and car batteries were + ground
there were NO seat belts
there were THREE lane hiways
normal hiway speeds were 45/50
cars and trucks were made of METAL (no plastics)
ALL cars/trucks were 'stick' shift
newer cars had the 'stick' shift on the steering column (three on the tree)
the adverage life of a car tire was @5,000 miles
auto inner tube rubber was good sling shot rubber
kids made their own toys--sling shots, stilts, match guns, rubber guns,
Daisy Red Rider B.B. guns were $7.00 !!
there was a $.02 deposit on coke bottles-- there were no cans-
you could understand all the words in every song !
people used to sing /whistle/ hum along with songs---

Actually 90% of that list runs into the 60's!

I never knew there were 'Automatics' in cars/trucks - since my parents never had them on any of their vehicles... so I had never driven in one till the 70's!
w0w! Does that bring back memories of the Impala (yes with the 3 round tail lights) one of my step dads had... that car went so freAking fast and we (ages 3-7) never had to wear seatbelts!!

I can remember most of those things but they weren't current when I remember them. Never knew there were 5 speed column shifters

Seatbelts hell, I remember riding in the flat area under the back window, or in that supersafe sideways well in the very back of the station wagon.

'dial' phones came into being when i was in college.

And there were no alternators...only generators.

Good gas was referred to as "High test"

Lead was in most all paints

School children walked on asbestos tiles

It was okay to own full autos....without "major" paperwork

and...

No, I don't.

Do you remember when your TV stopped working. You opened up the back and removed all the tubes. Drove to the Safeway and plugged them into the tube tester. Then bought the new tubes with the rest of your groceries .

I remember no clutch safety switches. It's how I drove my mom's VW into the garage door when I was one or two years old. She left the keys in the ignition and I must have thought they were so pretty I should turn them.

My grandpa had a car we all called "The Green Machine". It seemed like a huge car to me, but I think it was a Nova. Front bench seat and lap belts.

I remember being pulled and then chastised for not wearing seatbelts until I pointed out that all my plymouth had was lap belts and the cop saying "yea, I'd rather just go through the window too."

I remember some of this stuff, thankfully not all of it

you turned on the car radio and listened for the vibrator tube---- if you didn't hear it, you knew why the radio didn't work-----

I can't remember how many times i have pulled the tubes and checked them at the store !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! daymn near forgot that !!!!!

I bought gasoline for $.17 per gallon------
you pumped the lever back and forth, the gas was pumped into a glass measure tank on top of the 'pump' - you then removed the hose and drained the 'pump' into the car !

in those days----- it was known as a 'Service Station'--
you pulled in, one guy washed your windshield, another checked under the hood, and another pumped your gas !--- they wore uniforms with white shirts and black bow ties.
Texaco, Beacon, Signal, Red Star, Standard, Chevron
now it is known as a 'gas station'----

Here ya go. I happen to know someone who has a few of them for sale, along with other stuff from the good ole days. I have a cousin who runs a car lot in Arkansas, it's more like a tax write off, he is making his money in other ventures. His dad started off running service stations back in the day and that's how my cousin got his start. These days, when he is traveling around the country, he'll be on the look out for old stuff and when he finds it, he'll buy it up, get it shipped back to his place and it'll be restored, then he sells it at the car lot.
