Proud Parent

My 11 year old son J.R. just won the school spelling bee. I know it doesnt seem like much but it's the first time in his life he has ever won anything and it's the first time in mine and the wifes too. He started by winning the class spelling bee and went on to beat others in his and upper grades. He will be representing his school in the county spelling bee. Even if he comes in dead last i dont care. He worked hard and accomplished something on his own and for that i am so very proud. Now for ideas on how to celebrate. What would be a good way to show him we are happy and proud of his accomplishment? I want to make it big but not stupid expensive. Any ideas would be great. I was thinking of having a party for him and his friends. This is the most recent pic. Not a full face shot but here he is. Wasn't able to attend the damn thing cause my daughter was home sick. I hate missing moments like this.

Yay for him!! These are the things that build self esteem in kids. It is a big deal and parents should make a big deal.

Otherwise your kids just end up like Piggy.

Thats why i was thinking a party. Like i said, i dont care if he loses the county or not. I'm so proud and happy right now that's all i can think about. You are so right. And he needed the boost too. Thanks all. I will show him the thread when he gets home from school.

You should have a kid that hates to be considered smart. He could win every year, but, as he says, will podium and tank it.

3rd 3 years in a row.

I am so proud.
