Dana 300 ID

I'm pretty certain the Dana300 I have is a 1980 short output, but I need you gurus to help me confirm.

There are 2 tags on it:
1st tag:
Ser. No. 252704

2nd tag:
309003-2
5361332

The probblem I'm having is the input seal that keeps coming up in everyone's catalog doesn't fit. The innder diameter is OK, but the outer diameter is too big to fit into the bearing support.
Also - All of the Dana300's I've seen have a more of a "snout" shaped input bearing support as opposed to this one.

Any idea what input seal I need? The one I have is: CR 19783

Also - I noticed that the input bearing was pressed onto the stock shaft, but when I swapped in the JB COnversion 27 spline input fr the 700R4, the input gear slid right on. Should I be concerned that the new shaft did not require me to press the old gear back on?

How many splines on that input? It looks like it has had the input changed to a different spline count, that would use a differnt seal.

You need to fix the picture..... Did you look on your rear output housing? It should have the date stamped on it.

It has a JB 29 spline input shaft.
http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/p...nputgears.html

OD of JB shaft: 1.9875"
OD of OE shaft: 1.9455"

Seal OD: 2.6910"
Housing ID: 2.3715"

As you can see, the shaft diameters are "close enough", but the seal is too big to fit into the housing by approx .3" (A little over a quarter inch).

I see these number cast into:
Case: C300-15-2
R/output hsg: C300-19-2
F/output hsg:C300-19-5

I don't see anything stamped...

Keith - there's no seal to get a number off of. I'm pretty certain that whay I'm dealing with is a transfer case that was mated to a MT and that there was never a seal in the front of it. I looked closely at the sealing surface of the OE input shaft and the inner bore of the front bearing support and it doesn't look as if there was ever a seal installed. I also spent a bunch of time last night on the Federal-Mogul website. You can specify shaft, bore and seal type dimensions to cross reference to a seal - no matches.

I've got a buddy who does custom harley work (www.jedscycleproducts.com), so he is going to bore the housing out for me this afternoon.

On a side note, I don't like the JB conversion input shaft. The input gear slides right on their shaft whereas the gear was pressed onto the factory shaft.

BTW - John @ JB has offered to let me return the shaft. I've got another thread related to this one here:
