A Simple Fuel Solution for Carburetted Jeeps

I recently transplanted a Chevy V8 into my '93 YJ. Wanting to keep the fuel pump stock, I ended up with an expensive [$300+] fuel regulator. Plus, I had to add an AN8 [1/2"] return line all the way back into the tank. This means drilling the fuel bulkhead; installing the AN fittings [more $]; plus you have to drill out the frame support to allow the larger fuel return line to pass through. A real PITA!

Well, I just purchased a YJ tank from Gen-Right. Unfortunately, my fuel pump is 11.25" long...and the tanks are built for the Bosch pump that has the fuel pickup on the SIDE. [The interior of the tank is 10.5"] After unsuccessfully searching all over locally for the 'other' Bosch fuel pump, I decided to modify how the stock pump was located in the tank. Don't do it! It's not as easy as you'd think because of where the pump is located; the location of the supply nipple on the pump v/s the nipple coming through the bulkhead; etc...ANOTHER pain!

So on to today...I was still looking for the 'right' Bosch fuel pump when I discovered a pump from Holley; FRAME mounted; and 5-7 lbs. of pressure...perfect for a carb motor...All for $100 from Advance Auto, via the Web. What a no brainer! I'll remove the stock pump; add a pickup tube/sock and mount the new frame/pump...All for $100 plus a couple fittings.

You may be thinking "What the hell dude...just use a mechanical pump!"... Well, originally, that's the way I had it setup...but then I read of some anti-theft 'trickiness' that appealed to me...thus I returned to using an electrical pump.

So save yourself a bunch of cash and a mouthful of swearing...do what I did. BTW the Holley part number is 12-801-1. It's called a 97 GHP "Red" Electrix fuel pump.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just have disabled the ignition for anti theft prevention and use stock mechanical fuel pump.

I just installed a 19 gallon RCI fuel cell in my Jeep with a 383 motor and carb using stock mechanical fuel pump and no return line and it works perfect

Not with the way I have my anti-theft. I'd rather not say on an open forum. The way I have it setup is still worth all the trouble.
I can bypass an ignition disable VERY quickly with a short piece of cable...if you think about it...I'm sure you could also.
As an exercise, take some time and try to dream up the best way(s) to steal your rig...and take the necessary steps to do your best to prevent them.
