Must eat BBQ places for I-55 and I-70 road trip?
Heading back to CO... going from I-10 North on I-55; from there, heading N to I-70 and taking it West all the way back into Denver.
So... my question: Where are all the good BBQ stops? I'm talking about places easy to get to from the freeways (short drives) and a place I can fit a F250 +18ft deckover with my rig on it. We'll be near the Memphis areas and KC so I figured we would be in prime Q country. Above all, we must be talking about good, not that fast food crap. Hook us up, we are pulling out in the morning... would be nice to have some good Q for dinner.

I know it wasn't going to help...but I was going to say Texas too.
I just checked Google Earth...man, you gotta long drive. Stop in KC and go to... #1 Arthur Bryant's (the old shop down in the rape and murder district is kick ass). It's different from Texas bubbaQ, but it beats Memphis Q all over. #2 Gates Last edited by abnormaltoy; 04-09-2007 at 07:08 PM. |

I am taking that route to specifically avoid TX actually. (seriously)
I did have some Brisket at a place in Tyler, TX last time... probably the best Brisket I have had. Now that I think about it, I think it was called Bodacious BBQ or something like that. I've never really been the 55/70 route, but we have some time to kill, and with Diesel being as cheap as it is ( ), we decided to hit that route and maybe test out this legendary KC and Memphis BBQ I've heard rumors of.

I havent had KC bbq, but I have had memphis bbq...and I dont like it. Bodacious bbq isnt bad, but Ribmaster's in White Hall is the BEST.

You need to take I-40 to DeValls Bluff, AR The place is Craig Brother's Cafe, better known as Craig's bbq. It's the shit when it comes to bbq.

If your around Columbia MO at feeding time, I think its the third exit in town coming from the east, It's the providence exit i'm not sure of the number. Take that exit and turn left onto providence, go two blocks and there is a place called "Buckinghams BBQ" on the right side you cant miss it. IMO its the best in the area. By the way the parking is a little cramped but there is a large car wash behind the joint that should have plenty of open areas to park. Have a good trip..

In KC, hit up either Jack Stack or Smokehouse for some good Q. Jack Stack has better meats, but Smokehouse has the best bbq beans.

I live just outside of KC. My favorite is Jackstack, followed by Zardas and Arthur Bryants. I recommend Zardas cause it is easy to get to and Arthur Bryants is setup by the speedway and in Ameristar casino, but isn't as good as the one in the hood. Zardas in Blue Springs will be the easiest to get to.

My favorite BBQ place in the KC area is called Sneads. It's south of the city though, not sure how far off the highway you want to go. Theres some decent BBQ in STL too, a place called "Phils" used to consistantly win the locall "Best of" competitons. Not sure if it's still there though.

In KC, Arthur Bryants mustard based BBQ sauce is really an aquired taste. Definitely not the norm. But their meat at the original downtown restaurant is moist, juicy, and has great flavor.
Another place I found out about before we left was Smokin Guns. The owner, Phil (not sure if it's the same Phil as in St. Louis mentioned above), has won a ton of awards including Jack Daniels Grand Master Champion (forgot the year). Very, very good meat. They also sell a dry rub that I have in my cupboard and use on my pork ribs when smoking. |

I've had Gates, Zarda, Oklahoma Joes and Jack Stack. Jack Stack is by far the best. If you want real good BBQ come down to Oklahoma or Texas. Being born and raised in Oklahoma I think all KC BBQ sucks.

I tried to tell him this same thing but he had to move to CO anyway. Change some words in your sentence, and you'll understand why he moved. (Change "west" to "south", "KS" to "GA", and "BBQ" to "rocks".)
Eat well, Dan. Drive safer.

Coleman's Bar-B-Q
312 E Main St Senatobia, MS. Main street exit off of I-55. I am sure you have already left and won't see this, but oh well... I tried.
