What's a person gotta do for a dichotomous key?
I wish to identify a spider before it meets its end. It's the size of a quarter, black and fuzzy with white speckles.

I can't find a picture of one like it and I suck at the Google search.

google search for "spiders of texas," find your area and/or a picture that kind of looks like the spider.

Well, I did "North Texas" and got chit.

There are only two types of spiders that you really have to worry about... one is pratically never seen in the open (brown recluse), and the other is very characteristically shaped and marked (black widow)

On closer inspection it could be the North Texas Clown spider. Maybe he just wanted to entertain you? Was there a tiny tiny car next to him?
