More scrap thieves...

Last night, I was over at my shop working in the parking lot when a beat-up pickup began to drive up the driveway, saw me and slowly backed away. Next thing I see, the guy in the truck is in my next-door neighbor's lot trying to get the dumpster open. As soon as I started paying attnetion, he jumped in the truck and they slowly drove off...

Yep, I called the cops again. They may have shown up, but I got tired of waiting for them.

If nothing else, perhaps continued harassment will reduce the incidence of this sort of activity.

I'm so glad I'm moving out of that place tomorrow and into a shop behind my new house, or rather that my new shop is behind SWMBO's new house

good ol' Ft fun!

yeah, it's bad around here because omnisource is so easy to get to. they go around in pickup trucks that probably would never make it over 30mph but since omnisource is practicaly downtown it's damn easy for them to get there in whatever they have.

heck, i was cleaning my garage the other day and with a barely heaping load in the bed (no more than 6-8" above) i received 240$ in scrap value.

no wonder these people look for scrap. it's better pay than they can make in other ways. a dedicated scrapper can probably make about 30k per year at these prices.

I'm sorry, but that was some funny reading. I hope it all got worked out (though I just know it didn't)

I can't seem to get rid of pallets at work... How do I get someone to steal them? Can't make it any easier than I already am... Should I wait and help load them up too?

Sometimes our boss will let us take home scrap metal from work. I was running some bronze pieces in a lathe for 12 hours after the day guy had been doing it also, scraped all the chips out and saved them. $340, I forget how many lbs. Schwing!
