Home Fabbed Squat Rack Plans/Ideas

I need to build a squat rack for a friend, and probably for myself as well. I have a powercage but it's barely tall enough to allow me to do overhead squats comfortably let alone a person taller than me and I'm only 5'8.

I'm looking to do this cheap, have welder, and all that etc.

I had something like this in mind:

That thing is 400 bucks not including shipping... and yes, JUST for the rack itself

I'm thinking I can build one for less than 100 bucks in metal. I just want some ideas to make sure it's nice and sturdy etc. Also what wall thickness for the material etc.

I would build one like this one. You can move the horizontal bars incase you fail, and you can put blocks on the inside sides to fit your stance(keep your feet from slipping outwards).

I agree on the design. Those free standing racks look sketchy and are begging for an accident to happen.

that's exactly what i already have. the problem is, when doing over head squats with the barbell pressed as high as i can over my head, i sometimes hit the top rails.

I'm in the prosses of building a power cage as we speak. I'm basing mine of of the ones that ELITEFTS.com sells. It should be about 7-1/2' tallwhen done and will work fine for overhead stuff that I do. Could you build something under the bottome to raise it up and still have the cage?
