Pirates of the Caribbean 3: The Waste of Time

Went and saw this late last night. What a cluster fuck of a movie.

The whole thing is just like spiderman 3: a fucktastic way to wrap up every storyline.

The CGI is cool, but some of it is unbelievable in the wrong way. I found it to be a tragic attempt by Hollyweird to once again milk every dime out of a franchise.

Only one fight scene is cool. there are so many things that happen that you roll your eyes at you think you're reading an I'm a n00b! First post!" thread.

Steer clear of this reef, mates. There be cocksuckers making this movie.

Well I fell asleep in the theatre during the second one so I'll be saying no-thank-you to seeing this one. Thanks for confirming my suspicions about it.

I was looking at the movie listings as we have some downtime this weekend and havent been to the theater since Night at the Museum.

I found it to be interesting that in a 12plex, they are playing exactly 4 movies:

3 of which are the third of a series. (Fairly ironic, dont remember that happening before)
Shrek 3
Spidey 3
PotC 3

and Bug s the last, (wait for DVD)

So, of the third installment flicks, do any of them NOT suck? Should I just skip the theater and wait for DVD like I do with 95% of the movies out these days?

i saw the first one some time ago - meh - not too bad - good thing it was on VHS at someone elses expense.

don't see how 2 and/or 3 could be any better, considering what movie makers do with other sequels.

Return of the King sucked (not the whole thing, but the ending... we shouted "Fuck, get in the damned boat, Frodo!"

The first one was pretty damn cool. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by it. The second one was alright in a bordering on ghey, more than bordering on good. I have low expectations for the third one and will probably wait for DVD.

I read the book, several times, am essentially a Tolkien geek, have tolerance for drawn-out stories, and at that point in the movie even I wanted him to just get on the fucking boat!

I stopped going into movies expecting every one to be amazing, and going for sheer entertainment value. I seem to enjoy myself more now that I go for fun. If it happens to be good, added bonus.

Yeah, I definitely agree there! The whole Rings trilogy was pretty awesome, but it could of been absolutely amazing if they had chopped at least 30-45minutes off of the first 2 films and probably an hour off of the 3rd. I know they wanted it to be an epic style trilogy, but damn! You could take 2-3 hours out of it and it wouldn't lose anything.

My girlfriend is dragging me to see this lame flick. The second one was marginal at best, so I have pretty low expectations for the third. The worst part is that she's got tickets tonight and I know it's going to be crowded as hell and there's always a high concentration of morons to intelligent people out in public.

They do third movies because the second one made money.

The problem with this last one is the CGI dependancy. See, the first one was nearly CGI free. Just the Black Pearl's crew was whizbang special effects. It was nicely written, with a few core charactures and depended on the actors, who came through well.

Second one, they did more CGI. Not good CGI either. It was like Disney forgot to upgrade their computers. The storyline was not that strong, some scenes were not needed and pure fluff, and some of the charactures didn't come through well.

I haven't seen the third one but here is my prediction: Completely CGI addicted. Bloated with charactures that are not all that necessary. Land fight scenes over sailing fight scenes...making it more of a Kung Fu movie. Oversized CGI sets that the actors don't quite mesh with. Everything but the kitchen sink thrown in to keep the focus group happy. No real storyline.

How'd I do?

ps...in the first movie, the last fight scene at the gallows was waaaaaaaay too choreographed. It looked like a Bloom/Depp ballet. I still try to figure out which one is the ballerina in that pas deux.
