more oil filter options

I hope this isnt R

Motorcraft FL-1A or equivelant will fit a 22RE...The filter holds well over half a quart and has a silicone anti-drainback valve.

The FL-1A is on just about every Ford RWD V8 and RWD V6 from late 90s and back.

If the FL-1A is too long for your application there is also the FL-300 that is about 2 inches shorter and was used on 5.0 cobras in the early 90s

Looks the same size as the Fram PH8a and others. I run the same filter in a Napa gold, it also has the silicone drain back, or I use stock toy filters

How is the start up rattle with the ford filter? My timing chain rattles like hell most over night starts even with the Toy filter. Motor is fresh and makes great oil pressure once it gets the filter full. Just seems to drain no matter what. I think it is pulling back through the pump. For some reason its not as bad when it is pointed nose down on a hill.

I am thinking about going to a remote filter so I can have the filter vertical. Add a oil cooler at the same time. Buddy has been trying to talk me into Amsoil (he is a dealer) remote set up for a while.

What brand filter are you running? Sounds like a fram.

I run the Motorcraft filters, and have noticed no problems during startup, even when I have to start it, on the rare occasion, below freezing.

I may be remembering wrong but if I remember correctly in the 80s Toyota sold the same size filter as the FL-1A. Sometime in the early 90's it was dropped and went to the smaller filter.

Ive been running a 85515 carquest/wix filter for many years. I have no idea the app, but is anti-drain back works pretty darn good. Id say timing chain rattle is less than 5 seconds, if even that. Even after sitting for weeks.

copied this from TTORA forum

if you're looking for a basic oversized Ford filter, the number would be 85515 CARQUEST, 51515 NAPA. That's been the basic small block Ford V8 filter for nigh on 20 years...5.0L, 5.8L, even the 300c.i. straight six used it. Do me a favor though, although they're all the exact same WIX filters,

I was wondering the same. I thought the smaller ones were better.

I agree that having the filter mounted upside down will prevent most of the drain back, but if your motor is rattling like hell right now, then all that extra line and oil cooler won't help you out at all.

I run factory Toyota filters. Been doing it for years.

Why is Fram Garbage? Everyone says that. Let's have some real data to back it up. Never seen any myself, just statements on the internet. Are there any real lab tests that show they won't last an oil change interval?

edelbrock installes them on there new motors how bad could thery be?

A guy cut a bunch up, showed that they glue the cardboard filter eleiment & it wasn't secured well enough letting particles get by, why 99% of the people do not know is motors have a bypass mode, & either on start up or when filter starts to restrict............yes it bypasses the filter,
it may even part bypass at higher pressure, all IO know is the filter is not working 100% of the time, all the time

I HAVE RUN FROM FOR 25 YEARS, NOT SEEN 1 CASE WHERE THE FILTER WAS THE CAUSE OF ENGINE FALUIRE

All we use at work is fram unless you specify otherwise "motorcraft, mopar"
Have not had a single issue of failure due to a bad filter......yet.

Cut open a fram, and a wix. Check out the filter element. Im not saying fram is junk, I just see wix being much better. The real question, is the better necassary? Who knows, but I like the anti drain back of the wix for the timing chain, and more surface area in the filter.
