Poll: Photos before the wedding

So we're getting married in the late afternoon and are kicking around the idea of taking photo's at the garden prior to everyone showing up.

Pics of garden: www.hakone.com

What say you, oh mighty PBB?

Wait for the poll, jackasses

An advantage to taking photos before the wedding is after you can head straight to the reception & not have to come back to take photos.

I would say before & Bacon.

my wife and i did photos beforehand. outdoor wedding.

it was great on a few different levels - gave us some time alone, we weren't pressured for time, and after the ceremony we just did a few shots before we got to the reception (which was at the same place).

if you aren't into the "can't see her before the wedding" thing then it's a no-brainer IMHO.

It's a big tradeoff.

Logistically, it's much better to do it before everyone gets there.

I'll never forget when I saw her coming down the isle though. It wouldn't have been the same if I had seen her before hand.

So...............
We split the difference.
We did every pic with her and the girls and the guys, parents, and every pic with me likewise before hand.
So after the wedding, we did a receiving line, went back in for about 20 mins to get pics of the entire family (my side, her side with both of us took like 5 mins) and then like 15 mins of pics of just the two of us and the party. It took like 10 mins to drive over to the reception place, and we were there w/in 30 mins of the end of the wedding (20 mins after everyone else).

I'd do it the same way again.

PS: the 10 min drive over to the reception was awesome. We had our best man and maid of honor with us in the car, and the rest in the car behind us. It was a relaxing time before the reception and lots of fun.

it doesnt matter.. you WILL have to do some after.

so if you want to do them all at once.. do it after

if you want to split it up some so you aren't taking pics for 3 hours straight.. before.. and after.

We did them before. But we still had our "moment". Before pictures started, the sanctuary was cleared and I stood at the front all by myself. Then 4thJeep came down the isle. Another cool thing was that our photographer was unkowningly up in the balcony and got shots of it.

Take the pictures before the wedding. You'll be in no mood for them after.

EDIT: We did no photos after the wedding. Photographer we hired was around for 8 or so hours? I can't remember. She did all the posed shots, etc. before the wedding, took pics of the wedding, and took pics through the night at the reception.

There is no story. Its just a fact that once the reception starts, things get super busy and either your time is taken up getting pics, so you don't get to enjoy your own reception or you lose track of time because you're enjoying your reception and you don't get some pics you would like to have.

I used to video tape weddings, and have been to literally hundreds of weddings. Things were always less hectic if the photos were done before hand. Plus, that way you can get to the bar before all your drunken buddies drain the keg.

So was our video guy. Ah that was a great moment *snif*. Our pics took 4 hours. It was well worth taking them before.

It was hard to keep the flower girl clean, so we don't have any pictures of her. Everyone kept stepping on my dress during the pictures. So that might be an issue. But other than that I'd do it that way again.

We did like this. Before ceremony were pics of me with groomsmen, her with bridesmaids, family photos for the guests, individual shots. Immediately following were pics of the two of us together. Our reception was at the same place as the ceremony so it gave the guests time to find their seat before we came in. Some meet and greet time and pics with family/guests before eating. Worked fine for us.

Plus, you can't beat the video footage of me leaning on the 5y/o ring bearer to keep by balance. I got a little dizzy.

I got married In september.

We had most of the pictures taken before the wedding. We had all the bride's stuff taken and all the groom's stuff taken, but no together shots, so I didn't see her before the wedding. Made it go quicker after the wedding cause we only had to do the group shots.

My friend had all of his taken before his wedding, even the bride and groom together shots.

Before. I don't like sitting around for an hour or two at the reception waiting on the bridal party before I can eat.

Granted, you'll always take a few afterwards, but get as many as possible done beforehand.

Well since my wedding is TOMORROW, I will chime in here for a sec.

We are taking photos before and after.

The before photos will be of me and all of my groomsmen and then my fiance and her bridesmaids.

I WILL NOT BE SEEING HER ANYTIME BEFORE THE CEREMONY, EVEN IN THE MORNING. The first time i see her all day is when she comes out to walk down the isle!

Then after the ceremony we will be taking photos together, with the wedding party, then with both sides of the family. Once those are done we go inside and do the reception. Once the sun starts to go down we will be going outside by ourselves and taking sunset photos. After that its back inside to finish the reception!

we did them at the photographer's studio before the wedding. Did a handful afterwards as well.

the before was nice because you didn't have to hang around for an hour before heading to the reception.

I am going to do them AFTER because we are big into the 'can't see the bride before the wedding' thing.. Whats the point of all the excitement if you are going to go put on the rings and do the pictures before you are actually married. I want the photos to be the first of us as a MARRIED COUPLE, not a couple ABOUT to get married, ya know??

We will do it the same time the signing of the license takes place and before the 'freshen up' for the reception happens. Everyone will go in and mingle and get their first round of drinks, start getting food and by the time we come in they will be almost finished and starting to do speaches. Then we can eat while they give the speaches, etc.. It can be worked around, you just have to plan a little more.

You don't really think that you'll have time to actually enjoy the food at your wedding, do you?? Silly girl!
