Killing/Remaking another Classic, Bullitt

Brad Pitt to star in 'Bullitt' remake

Brad Pitt will star in a remake of 60s classic movie 'Bullitt.'

The 'Ocean's Thirteen' actor will take the role of Lt Frank Bullitt made famous by Hollywood legend Steve McQueen in the 1968 original film.

A source said, "Brad shares a lot of the same passions as Steve McQueen - including a love of motorbikes and fast cars - so it was a dream role for him." advertisement

The original film sees the tough detective hunting a hitman who has killed his fellow officers. The movie is renowned for featuring one of the best car chases in cinema history as McQueen's Mustang car speeds through the rollercoaster streets of San Francisco.

Brad, 43, has been linked with the role since 2003 but the project has only now been given the green light as film bosses desperately try to kick-start as many movies as possible before the Screen Actors Guild begin their anticipated strike action.

Brad can next be seen playing legendary outlaw Jesse James in the western 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,' due out in October.

You showed one badass, and one toy.

And they named the movie after the toy

True, Im a mopar guy, the charger is kickass. The mustang is cool too, but any car guy will agree that a mustang was no match for a charger, stock vs stock.

I love watching the charger lose hubcaps during the chase, I think i counted like 6 hubcaps flying off one side of the car.

k charger guys win the old skool stock vs stock but for the remake I'm sure they'll use a new mustang vs a new charger and i'm pretty sure the stang blows it outta the water in every way possible.

They can only re-do it if the bad guys car looses 5 hub caps again.

That is all I ask for...

I dunno... I'll probably watch it but I can't imagine the car chase being any better than the original, which I have a copy of... Also have no use for Brad Pitt (or Cage for that matter). Meh! Maybe I'll just watch the original again...

It was deconstructed just so the Ford could keep up. There was a multi-page thread here on that very movie and subject some time ago.

To bad John Frankenheimer is dead. He would have been the logical choice to direct this movie, and possibly top the chase from Ronin.

Actually, I'm hoping NOT.

There are precious few classic musclecars left anymore, we sure as shit don't need another shitty movie using them all up as "stunt" cars.

Use new cars. The automakers will give them away just for the advertising, and nobody will really care how many get trashed - they'll just make more.

In a straight line it wasn't a match. The Charger would fall over in a turn.

Now way in HELL a Stock charger of that vintage would keep up with a Stock Stang in a corner. The stang weighs a LOT less and had better front suspension. Never saw Chargers road racing in the Trans Am series back then did ya?

I predict about this movie, they will fuck it up a minimum of three ways:

1- There will be some stupid comedy routine going on somehow, worked into the new version, mark my words.

2- There will be hideous CGI scenes for the car chase, making it over the top and completely unbelievable.

3- There will be some big name actress broad penciled in with way too much dialogue and nothing to do with the plot, "making the story much more appealing to a larger demographic, and the director felt he needed to show more of the Bullit character's life away from the job, the more vulnerable side, blah blah blah"

I'm not holding my breath for this one, I liked the old one

You are probably right There wasn't a word said in the last half hour of the movie. People don't get it

Yep, I too hope they use the new cars. Quit trashin classics for some cheap assed hollywierd flick.

Again probably too true. Especially on the CGI chase scenes.

I'm not holding my breath for this one, I liked the old one

Exactly! No need to remake this classic unless there is full frontal, damnit! Plus, it might cause even more traffic in SF, argh. I think I'm gonna go home tonight and relax with a little Bullitt myself. They better not try to remake Dirty Harry either...grrrr!
