Would Really Hate To Have To Track This Guy Down

AND IF ITS BEEN POSTED

CHEYENNE - A member of the Wyoming Army National Guard, trained as a sniper, is being sought in the shooting death of his estranged wife.

Cheyenne police are looking for David M. Munis, 36. As of Saturday afternoon, he was the police's only suspect in the death of Robin Munis, 40.

David Munis is attached to a Wyoming Army Guard unit in Guernsey. He has taken military counter training as a sniper, Police Capt. Jeff Schulz said.

"We believe him (to be) very dangerous," Schulz said Saturday at a news conference.

The suspect has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Robin Munis, 40, was singing with Ty and the Twisters at Old Chicago in north Cheyenne just after midnight Saturday morning when she was shot.

She died at the scene.

No one else was hurt.

Cheyenne Police Lt. Rob Korber said she apparently was hit in the head with one gunshot that came from outside the restaurant.

Added Schulz, "We believe Mrs. Munis was killed with one shot from a rifle. We have recovered the bullet at the scene."

A MySpace entry describes Ty and the Twisters as a classic rock and country band.

Robin Munis worked at the state Department of Health's Developmental Disabilities Division as a policy analyst.

David Munis is "known to have several long guns," Schulz said.

Among them are .308 and 7-millimeter rifles.

"We don't know if (the guns) were with him or not. We know that he owns them," Schulz said.

When asked if there were other suspects, he replied, "We are working solely on him being the suspect. Obviously things could change."

The couple is separated, Schulz said. David Munis made a harassing phone call to Robin Munis on July 13, he added.

"We have no reason to believe that we've got anyone other than Mr. Munis that is responsible for it," Schulz said.

On Saturday morning, glass in a door that leads from the bar to the patio portion of the business was shattered. By mid-morning, someone had taped dark plastic to the door.

David Munis is a staff sergeant with the Wyoming Army Guard. He was due to become a second lieutenant next month, said Deidre Forster, public affairs officer for the Wyoming Guard.

He promoted Camp Guernsey to potential customers, Forster said. The camp is a training area for military and civilian agencies.

He joined the Guard in April 2003, coming from active duty in the U.S. Army. He went to sniper school while in the Army.

Davis Munis is believed to be driving a black 1999 four-door, extended cab Dodge Ram pickup. There is some gray on the bottom of the vehicle, Schulz said.

There are no eyewitnesses to him shooting the gun, Schulz said. There are eyewitnesses that put him in the area at the time the shot was fired, he added.

Police are certain the gunshot came from outside.

"We're not certain where he was when he took the shot," Schulz said. "It could have been in the parking lot. It could have been a long ways away. We don't know that."

Police tests being done will help answer those questions.

Investigators have reached relatives of David Munis in Montana. They live about a 12-hour drive away from Cheyenne.

"We've been in contact with them; they've been very cooperative," Schulz said. "Obviously, everybody just wants him to come in (and) talk to us so we can straighten these things out."

Police are keeping an eye on a couple of houses, one of which is in the area.

"We don't believe he has returned there. We were out there last night, and he wasn't there last night," Schulz said.

Investigators don't know for sure if he has left the area.

Police were called to the restaurant at 1734 Meadowland Drive shortly after midnight Saturday. More than a dozen police cars responded.

Police evacuated a portion of the building, Korber said. They cordoned off the parking lot with yellow police tape.

Customer Travis Brooks was sitting halfway down the bar when the shooting occurred.

"Somebody just shot through the door at the singer of the band," he said. "We heard a loud noise.

"At first we thought it was just a speaker blowing up or something. I looked over and saw her on the floor.

"Everyone was yelling to get down because there was a gunshot."

He said he first thought it was on the patio. That's because a person in the band was yelling for whoever was outside not to come in the door.

"But it was just people on the patio trying to get inside because they heard the shot, too," he said.

He said he wasn't sure where the gunshot came from. He saw glass break and saw smoke everywhere.

He and some others crawled to the kitchen. They stayed for three to five minutes in a little bathroom near the kitchen.

"Everyone was in shock; I don't know what to think," he said.

One customer who refused to be identified said he was sitting in the patio when he heard a loud noise. He thought it was fireworks, but he soon realized it was a gunshot.

He and others in his group saw a black pickup in the parking lot a short distance away. Some were able to describe it as a Dodge.

The pickup drove slowly out of the parking lot and then sped away.

The unidentified man said he and other customers waited for a few minutes inside a walk-in refrigerator.

Early Saturday, police interviewed employees and customers.

Some of the woman's family members were at the scene early Saturday morning, but they were unavailable for comment.

At 4 a.m. Saturday, Laramie County Coroner Marty Luna, an assistant and some law enforcement officers removed the body from the bar area.

On a happy note, at least the rest of the band survived.

They found his truck with an empty gun case or cases, last night. Looks like he has gone out camping.

I bet the searchers are pretty jumpy.

No shit. I wonder if any of them are big enough assholes to carry fireworks.

You see one of your buddies sticking his head around a tree, and POW, set off a black cat.

Sounds like he's convicted before they even talk to him. wtf, why would a sniper shoot someone with all that audience and from an unconcealed position? It doesn't add up.

Some guy rented a tux to go kill the governor of Colorado yesterday too... last night's news was definitely interesting. How far off the deep end do you have to be, to have a formalwear rental place call the cops on you for what you say while renting a tux?

I would hate to have to go look for that guy and I halfway know what I am doing....I would hate to be a cop or Park Ranger doing the looking with no formal counter sniper training....shit that would suck.

The Guard has 2 Special Forces groups too. Probably a few dozen snipers in each group. Amazing isnt it?

Given the locale it would be real easy to head south along 287 and disappear. Cherokee Park in CO taint all that far across the border and theres a couple few cutoffs near Tie Siding,WY that access the back way in.
