Fathers throttles son, you see it, now what?

Taking a break outside the shop, gas station next door some dad is coming unglued towards his kid who I'd say was about 4-5. Screaming, cussing him out, then SMACK, SMACK... and I mean dam hard, kid is just wailing. Instinct kicks in and I start walking over to the car with the full intention of beating that guy into the ground. I cannot stand seeing any little kid like that.

But then I stop and think of the reality of this, anything I do would probably just piss him off even more and he's going to end up taking it out on his kid. They pull away and seeing that little boy with tears streaming down his face I felt like a complete pile of shit for not doing a dam thing. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. I did write down his license plate and called the S.O., they pretty much yawned and gave me the "well ok..." thing.

To be honest right now I'm on the verge of tears, kids are so helpless in this world when they're young and rely on their parents for EVERYTHING. I'm not against spanking or anything like that, but this was way out of that realm. Guess I should just forget about it, go on about my life and forget that quite possibly this kid's life is getting fawked over because his dad can't control his temper. That'd be easy but I know dam well tomorrow morning I'll still think about it.

Camera phone.

At least you did something. Yelling at the father would have been better. The kid was gonna get a beating either way.

You won't be so quiet next time.

Yeah, its not right, but so fucking what? I wouldnt feel that bad, nobody ever does anything about situations like that. When i was a kid, i remember going to school with black eyes and brusies all the time, nobody ever stepped in and did anything. Just a reality, thats just one of those things that people would rather just ignore and not get involved in.

It's not right to beat anyone, especially not children. If you think its ok then you need your ass kicked every day for the rest of your life.

Just because your father was a piece of shit doesnt mean every father is.

Nope, my Dad was just fine.

Of course the smacking around was definitely deserved by me, it was not just a random thing if he was in a bad mood or anything like that!

Ever since I saw a guy getting beat up while I was in college and I got detained by the cops, I stay out of that shit, other than calling the cops.

If there's imminent danger of death, I might intervene, but that one bad experience (and many other bad experiences with cops when I was trying to help someone) really turned me off of trying to help.

Sad, but it is what it is.

It does make sense, I got beat when I fucked up all the time. Now I am glad it happend because some of my friends with parents who didnt touch them are pretty fucked up now. I never got a black eye from it but if I continually did something I wasnt supposed to I am sure it would happen but most of the time I just wised up.

I agree with with this.

Alas, I have been asked to leave a Wal Mart and an AA meeting due to threatening fathers who were about to beat their child.

The AA guy had his belt in his hand swinging back. Mine was 1/2 off when I asked if he wanted to be next.

Wally world guy started shaking the child. I used impolite language at a decent volume and said he'd get twice what he gave.

6/2 and 200# is good for somethings.

Unfortunately, I probably did make them madder/lower their self esteme and they took it out worse on the kids.

I hate that shit though.

You described what happened as "SMACK SMACK...damn hard". What are we talking about exactly? Backhand to the face? Smack on the back of the head? Smack on the ass?

I got smacked a couple times, but it was warranted due to teenage rebelliousness and back talk and it certainly sobered me up, I can't imagine what a 4-5 year old could do to earn such a thing.

its people like you who take away parents' rights to raise their children.

I was punished with smacks and slaps as a kid. It wasn't abuse, it was how they taught the lesson.

More parents need to beat their kids nowadays. This timeout bullshit clearly isn't working. Or the counting to 3 with no consequences.

You can be DAMNED sure anyone who got spanked as a kid thought twice before doing something bad.

I would not intercede unless he was "actually beating" his child. This is such a twisted situation that there is no right answer.

Do you know what brought the spanking down on the kid? The lil shit could have just knocked over a display, and the father, upon seeing this, may have taken Jr. out to the parking lot so the whole store would not have to listen to the spanking.

If you beat Dad in front of son, what kind of image is that gonna imprint into lil dood's mind? If I cry some stranger will beat up my Daddy...I garantee that it would be more psychologically damaging to the kid to see his Daddy beat that to catch an ass whoopin.

I do not condone excessive punishment by any means, but I will whup my boys when they get out of line. Spare the rod, spoil the child. They get timeouts most of the time, but big offenses get the hand or the belt. Usually the threat of a public spanking is enough to bring them into line without having to go any farther.

If I was diciplining my child in public, and some Danny do good tried to step in, there would be 2 crying people. Same goes for the self righteous dickwads that tell people to tell their kids to shut up in resturaunts...you think that I am happy that my son chucked a roll at your head fawker??

The guy shaking the kid probably needed, because thats not how discipline is given. The guy with the belt may be a different story unless it was an out of control hitting

A beat on a the butt with about 4 or 5 times max is sufficient. If I was the guy not out of control and spanking my kid and you said that to me, I would have replied with "Touch me with you belt and I'll cut your arm off and eat it while you watch"

Agreed = definition of 'smack'?

I remember a couple times growing up, I smarted off bad to my mom. She took my face in her hand & pooched out my lips & popped me with the flat part of the inside of her other hand. "You *Smack* will NOT *Smack* talk to me or any other adult *Smack* that way, do you understand?"
And I turned out to be a better person because of it.

But did my parents ever backhand me or such? No way.

Unless you know the full story of what was happening I would find it hard to say anything.
Now, if the dude was getting ready to use a branding iron or tazer or start carving him up with a switch blade I would definately say something
