1st Day of School....
So, my two sons started there first day of school today. Its a new one for both since one has entered high school and one has enter middle school.
I now have the moody teenager that is thinking of college and taking college prep courses as a freshman and a middle schooler that I am not ready to have grow up yet. Anyway, my youngest comes home today from school and football practice and his teachers have given the parents a homework assignment. In a million words or less, tell me about your child... I thought I would share what I wrote, even though it might be a little sappy and that type of crap. In a Million Word or Less, tell You About My Son, Mike Goodman What can I tell you about my Son? Well, to start with, I will tell you that I like him. Naturally of course I love my son unconditionally, but on top of it, I like him. I think we are great friends, at least from my side of this. I hope he feels the same way. We share a lot in common, he is my Mothers curse come to light, a Son just like Me. He’s insightful, funny, laughs a lot, makes me smile, and a joy to be around. Now, he is far from perfect, but that’s what makes him Mike. We share a lot of things with each other and he amazes me pretty much on a daily basis. I’ve seen him grow taller, get smarter, and become a great guy…one I am proud of, not just in a son, but also as my friend. We have been learning a lot from each other. I may be able to teach him about hunting or baseball or be a coach for football. I can help with homework and even once in a while get one of his math questions halfway correct. But, the other side is he has taught me to be able to laugh at myself, be funny, hopefully be a mentor to him and his friends when I am coaching some sport I know nothing about, and more than anything, he has taught me to be a father…for these things, I love him. You may find him a natural leader in a classroom, a child that loves to help and one that will want to be involved as much as possible. He loves math, reading, sharing, and of course talking when he shouldn’t be talking. His writings and stories are fun to read and full of imagination, something I hope he will continue with. He is funny, makes friends quickly and I don’t believe he has a mean bone in his body. Mike is a natural animal lover that has a gift sometimes of almost being able to talk to them. He is trusting, always has a smile, and full of life. Of course, as with all boys in this growing up stage, he can forget to do his chores, have to be reminded to keep up his room or to make sure he does his homework. I may have to yell to get him to stop fighting with his brother or to make sure he takes care of something he was supposed to do. In any case, I know it will get done, even if I have to remind him a few times. He does know about responsibility, caring for the animals in his charge, and loving his 4H projects. A few things to share…he took Champion and 1st place on his Record book in his 4H chicken project, both his chickens took 2nd place, and his Birds of Prey project board took a Champion and 1st place and was taken to the State Fair for judging there as well. He was very honored and proud, as he had a right to be. He’s an avid bird lover and watcher, favors the red-tailed hawk among birds, and is a baseball player and a football player. He enjoys working with our horses and pretty much likes all animals in general. He lives to write stories, more science fiction that anything else and is looking forward to his first big game hunting season this year. While I am a long ways from a million words, I hope I have described Mike as he is in my eyes, I hope he goes far in this world and I know he can. cliff notes - my son is a great kid. end of story |
