Can you guys help set these guys straight?

I know there is alot of debate about the different materials for cages but I really do not want to see anyone get hurt and these guys are definately gonna have something happen.

http://www.jeepkings.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=64766

Thanks

Move this to chit-chat.....
Some people use HREW with good results, not saying I would though. The DOM vs. HREW debate was played out on here too, search for it.

Set them straight on what. They are right.

Personally I use DoM cause I get a great deal, and expect to comp my rig, but my neightbors poop pipe exo has been flopped and rolled on a few occasions and is still holding up.

Dont believe all the hype you read........................

I used a pipe bender and pipe for stuff for years. Now I bit the bullet and got a tube bender so I could do 180 degree bends and make some nicer stuff. Pipe is just specs the dimensions of the material....it has nothing to do with the quality of the material.

I have rolled my pipe caged rig at 40 mph and it is still fine...no dents or kinks. Yes it is going to be softer than DOM but good quality pipe is going quality pipe is going to spec out very similer to HREW.

There have been hundreds of pipe vs tube threads out there. Bottom line is that a pipe or hrew cage will work if properly designed.

I just wish DOM was cheeper around here. I have to special order it and it is 4-5 times the cost or HREW

It's still more to do with how you build it than what you build it out of.

MFLB Being 25 years old and having 15 years of structual metal working and schooling acounts for nothing these days. It's the point that everyone believes what they read on the internet incl how to design a cage. These guys don't seem to have the necessary skills or knowledge to build a safe cage. I'm not saying I know everything but I am saying someone is going to get hurt.

His father taught him to weld before he could walk. His love for metal work evolved from there - he began formal training at age 10.

Playing with an erector set at age 10 does not give you structural metal working experience.

OH SNAP!!!!

Pipe is fine for bumpers and shit. If you build a cage out of pipe, it is better than no cage at all, however, I'm sure not eveeryone is willing to spend the big $$$ on HREW and DOM right away. Sure, some do, but whatever. Build a cage out of pipe, save, then down the road when you've got the $$$ build a "good" one out of some DOM or HREW....
