4L60E only takes off in 2nd or 3rd

94 Chevrolet 1/2 4X4. I determined thru searching this site that the shifting is electronically controlled but we suddenly have a problem with the truck not shifting to 1st gear when it slows down or stops. As a result if you put it in drive it starts out in 3rd and if you move the selector to 1st or 2nd it will start out in 2nd. What I don't know is if the electronics also control which gear you start out in . Thankyou for your help. Norm

You need to hook it up to a REAL scanner(not autozone or walmart, a $7000 snapon or otc) Then see if the computer is commanding 1st or second gear, then you can determine if the problem is internal or external.

I have actually seen a bad MAF sensor causing those symptoms(i'm not saying this is your problem, i'm just showing you that tons of things could effect the shifting)
