I was on my way to A+P school when the first "small general aircraft" hit. I got to college about the time they switched it to being an airliner, and watched the second one hit shortly after. I was full of mixed emotions. I felt bad for everyone directly involved, but I was also worried about my future, since I was getting out of aviation school in 4 months. I got damn lucky, and got one of the 2 good jobs offered coming out of my class. It was hard to watch at 19 years old, finishing college and heading out into the world soon, into a career field that just got devastated.

I had friends that couldn't reach their husbands for an entire day, one was a pilot, the rest passengers, but they couldn't get through. That was pretty hard to hear. They were all safe, luckily.

The entire school was pretty depressed for a few days. What happened to the people there (at the towers) was bad enough, and everybody was worried about their futures after college, some with good reason.

I was layin in bed - we have alwasy had a tv in our bedroom, but neither of us really EVER watch in the AM, mostly a before bed thing.

But that day, the tv was on the morning news when all the interrupts started in with breaking news.

I very clearly remember the second plane hitting and watching it live.

When I got to work that day, I hooked our phone system to our hold music player and tuned in the news station and broadcast the news to the shop all day.

I just got off of the night shift and was taking a nap when the wife came in and said the world was on fire or maybe she said the WTC was on fire.

Was working listening to it all unfold on AM radio. Started as small aircraft hitting tower, figured it was freak accident, then it all went downhill from there. We had no TV's and I didn't get the full impact of it until I went home after my shift.

I will not, and cannot EVER forget.

I was at work and I called my wife at break time. She was bawling and said it was like WWWIII was starting. I told a few people at work about it and then we stood around listening to it unfold on the radio until our shift was over.

I was in West Hartford, CT, working on a Blockbuster Video sign. Later that day, in Bristol, CT, I nearly strangled a guy to death when he said we had it coming, at a Borders bookstore. My daughter was less than a month old, and I felt an immediate and still-present sadness at both the loss of life in the Towers and in PA, and DC, but more than that, for the changes that would have to come because of that. I watched it on the Blockbuster TV, and cried with the manager when the first tower fell.

Mostly I was angry though, and I still am. They should play the Towers falling every Friday on the news, to remind people. Or show that truck driver getting his throat cut and dying like an animal.

Logged on to the net...to my old homepage...some news site.

Kinda saw something out of the corner of my eye (eyes were good then) and didn't think much of it (some 3rd world thing probably).

Did a double take...went back and watched everything live as the second tower went down. I don't think I moved for 2 days from the tube...or even blinked watching the TV

Life changing event for me. It changed my life in a good way (focus wise).

Oh, thought I"d throw out the "thank you military members"...it all makes sense now.

To those who lost loved ones; may they rest in peace and may their lives NOT have been lost in vein and help strengthen this great nation.

I was in bed. My mom called me and told me that a plane hit the WTC, and I thought "planes crash all the time" and went back to sleep. Some time later my brother calls and tells me that one of he towers fell. That's when I got interested.

I listened to AM radio all night at work, that's all that was on.

They where hurding us into the Gym at school and not sure what was going on when the principle busted out of his office and yelled 'one just hit the pentagon!" to a group of teachers.

Then we spent the rest of the day watching the news and I went home

Workin courtline at Inmate Reception Center. I was working the back cells and saw a bunch of my partners gathered around the door to the Sgts office and went to see what was up. One of the guys said a plane accidently ran into one of the Towers. I said "In this day and age that kind of thing just doesn't happen, that was done on purpose."

I had to go to the Central Jail side a little while later and poked my head into the Deputies gym to see the TV right when the first Tower fell....that was chilling.

My patrol bag was at home (stupid me) so I had Rose drive it up. We had about 1200 inmates on thier way to court when the courts decided to close. So we had to take all them back and get them into housing in under two hours with just 8 Deputies, that was a crazy day.

I was in bed sleeping in (supposed to be at work).
Wifey went to work on time and heard some something on the radio, called and woke me up and said to turn on the TV in the bedroom. Saw the 2nd plane hit the tower live.

Checking over my driver's shit in the motorpool, we were scheduled to go do some cool high speed week long helicopter insertion training. One of our mechanics came over and told us to turn the TV on in the platoon CP.

I was in Johnstown NY working on an EPA superfund site, old leather tannery, in level C gear, sampling a hydro-chloric acid tank. EPA OSC called over the radio when the first plane hit, continued sampling. EPA OSC called over the radio when the second plane hit, we pulled out of the zone and went to decon. We all sat around the job site for about 30 minutes listening to the radio while I was trying to call my unit. Since all cell was out in the area I went to the hotel to pack my gear and started heading back to my base. Finally got through on the Jersey Turnpike while I was doing 100+, pulled a U-turn and went to NYC, got turned around a bit later and spent 2 days at the EPA facility in Edison NJ setting up the command post, and on the 14th I went to the Fresh Kills Landfill in NY to perform air monitoring and site safety for the sorting operations there. Didn't see home for 45 days or so.

Was home taking care of my little girl and talking on the phone with my dad. TV was on just watching CNN or something when it blurbed on. Unreal moment that I'll never forget.

Was coming into work after regular 0630 PT when my old crusty Squad Leader ran into the company and said turn on the TV a plane had crashed into the WTC. 70 of us crammed into the front of the building around a crappy little TV that barely worked and saw the second plane hit. Shortly after the plane hit the Pentagon we got the call to get to the motorpool and start packing because we were expected to be gone within 24 hours of the call which they thought was coming any minute. I lived off post and couldn't go home for 48hrs because the people who know thought military installations would be hit next. It was a long couple of days. Oh yea and my ex was deployed to Kosavo at the time and didn't even know.

On the CVN 74 off the coast of California doing workups. We didn't even have any airwing personnel, let alone planes. By the next day we had those and stayed out for two weeks guarding the southern west coast for any incoming air or sea traffic.

When the planes hit the WTC, I was just getting up (6am ish). As I walked past the TV, someone mentioned the first crash, I watched, saw the second crash and exclaimed "We're going to war." and went and took a shower. I spent the rest of the morning watching CNN and the news. By lunch we had our orders for the next two weeks. Before we were home, we were told to pack up for a open ended deployment.
