60 series axles under a 40
I don't really mean to beat the dead horse, but after having made quite a progress in this conversion, here's what I learned so far :
- brackets are a pita to take off and clean - brackets are a pita to build and adjust Also, I don't see any need for outboarding the springs. I'm sprung-under, and decided I could live with a 5mm loss in ground clearance at the pumpkin, rather than notching the housing and possibly making it weaker at a strategic point. So I built a set of custom spring perches which are higher than stock by 5mm, allowing the required move inwards on the LHS.

while I'm at it, and since I was asking about extra axle gusseting on 60 series (not knowing I actually owned both styles
), here's what it's about :

Cool nice job too, i may actually go this way with the SUA. Although its already SOA, it won't be too hard too change, depending on the height when I have finished.

Geez since you got it out you might as well cut off the birfield housings and weld on D44 inner C's then go Waggie disc brakes. I'd show ya how it turns out (all credit given to Tankota for the welding) but I haven't updated my star account yet.

part maybe ???waggie disc brake ? I don't think I could find them in the junkyard... ![]() I'm not buying $2000 in exotic parts for an axle I'll need to upgrade again... when I'll put bigger tires on I'll consider longfields if I have a front locker, but that's not going to happen before I have a lot of money, and before that, I'll have to build put the bigger engine in... Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think it would work for me... (unless you sent me some dirt cheap parts... )bye, ,

I'll try to put a little more update today, I kinda messed with different Ubolt setup ideas, but found one that I'm almost satisfied with, and should get me running for now...

ok, here's what I came up with...
I'm half happy with my u-bolt/u-plate combo, but I'll work on something cleaner when I do the matching rear axle conversion...

I slightly notched the 3rd member lip, to allow for easy removal...

you should just use standard 40 series u-bolts
It looks like you are doing a good job but!! you can see it off to the left in this pic.

yup, but I'm sprung-under as you see, and wanted to find a way to increase the ground clearance under the spring pack...
Now, the whole stuff hangs down 18mm lower than the bottom leaf, where it was like 30 or 35mm

Why didnt you just outboard the front springs? Its only one inch per side worked great for me.

well, I didn't really feel like cutting the frame just for that, and I thought it would be easier to figure it out... anyway, since it turned out OK, I consider myself happy.
Other points were the ease of working on just an housing vs a whole frame (my cruiser is stored in a barn, with no shop facility whatsoever) and the improved flex ![]() the engineering challenge was fun as well. Next time I'm doing that it'll look better than factory ![]() I didn't really like the outboarding idea to tell the truth but to each his own ![]() ,

yeah i think we had a similar deal too.
but i think Denis meant 60 series as in "antyhing by that body shape" he did not even try and discern between 60/62. So, yeahhe was just being general and summing up.
