***My Day At The Government Passport Office***

Okay...quick post, as we are out the door!!

Ali, Grin and I are on our way downtown. Let's see if the congressman's office helped. I'll keep you updated on how the day is going...probably through Mel and anyone else who knows my cell number....

Got a book, chairs, snacks, ID, etc....I'm just worried about the potty situation!!!!

WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well...first off, I am sad that NO ONE wished me luck on my plight! You guys all suck.

I am back at work. It has been 3.5 hours and I am home. I feel really bad for anyone who has to wait in the "no appointment" line. There are 2 security guards there to keep an eye on things.

When the Will Call window opened---I was third in line. Even though the congressman's office told me to be there at 9---I was there at 6:45--willing to wait until 9.

When I gave her Ali's SS# and ID, she stepped away, handed me the passport, and that was it. We were the 3rd people, in all of that madness, to walk away. And by 7:15. Ali was only 10 minutes late for school. I even stopped for coffee and oatmeal.

If you are within a few days of leaving, and you don't have your passport--call your congressman's office, that is why they are there. To help. Yay for Elton Gallegly...I am now in the process of sending flowers to his aide and to the lady at the city office, who has called me daily to see how I am, and how this is turning out. Some people DO care and I was lucky enough to find them and get their help.

So.....Here is the line....what you see in front of the Will Call window, is the appointment line. All the way to the right, is the start of the "no appointment line". that goes all along down the side of the building, and runs back along Wilshire.....that line brings the suck.

Grin is very happy that we have our passport, and can begin our trip. However, he was looking forward to a fun day in LA and having his picture taken over the hours, with irrate *would-be* travelers.

Here is the side of the Federal Building, and the *No Appointment* line. This line is very far from the front door of the building...I am very sad for these people.

And here is a crazy picture I took, just hanging my camera out the window as I drove on Wilshire, and onto the 405. This is the end of the *No Appointment* line....

I wonder what our next obstacle will be............ I am such an optimist.

Hurray! You're gonna be trippin'.

Ali gets to go trippin' too!

Hurray for Ali it's a right of passage, I hear!

I, on the other hand, have never been trippin'. Well out of the U.S. of A., that is.

This might be of some interest to you as you stated in your previous thread about the "expedited" nature of your passports.

Homeland Secuirty is on their way to your office for taking pics of the federal building

Glad you got it OK. When I had mine renewed in '03, it was a piece of cake. My wife OTOH had lost her expired passport and it was Hell.

After what it takes to get one, I will not take it out of my pocket and use it as my only form of ID, in spite of the folks who try to refuse it and demand to see my drivers license.

I lost my original passport. At least, my ex says I did. I still contend that he is keeping it from me...but I had to turn in a lost passport report---I got my passport no problem. I think it just depends on the processor.

One thing I did discover, or should I say confirm----government employees have ZERO personality.

I saw a similar story like this on MSN. I may or may not apply to get the expedite amount refunded. Right now, I am just ecstatic to have her passport in my hot little hands.

That's not funny, I'm a government employee.

Ok, it's not funny because it's true.

3.5 hrs in a federal buiding isn't bad. Maybe encouraging depending on where you live.

Yes, Grin is going. He is very excited...see?....

I was only there for LESS than an hour. I got to the building at about 6:30---we were on the freeway by 7:20. I never even entered the building....which was EVEN better.
